| | The Study Quran rendition of Surah Those Who Set The Ranks, Drawn up in Ranks, The Rangers(as-Saffat) --- |
---|
37:1 | | By those ranged in ranks |
37:2 | | and the drivers driving |
37:3 | | and the reciters of a reminder |
37:4 | | truly your God is One |
37:5 | | Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is between them, and Lord of the easts |
37:6 | | Truly We adorned the lowest heaven with an ornament, the stars |
37:7 | | and a guard against every defiant satan |
37:8 | | They listen not to the Highest Assembly, for they are repelled from every side |
37:9 | | cast out, and theirs shall be a punishment everlasting |
37:10 | | save one who snatches a fragment as a piercing flame pursues him |
37:11 | | So ask them, are they more difficult to create, or those whom We created? Truly We created them from a viscous clay |
37:12 | | Indeed, but thou dost marvel, while they scoff |
37:13 | | And when they are reminded, they do not remember |
37:14 | | And when they see a sign, they seek to scoff |
37:15 | | and say, “This is naught but manifest sorcery |
37:16 | | What! When we have died and are dust and bones are we to be resurrected |
37:17 | | and our fathers of old? |
37:18 | | Say, “Yes, and debased will you be. |
37:19 | | Then there will be but a single cry. And they will then behold |
37:20 | | They will say, “Oh, woe unto us! This is the Day of Judgment. |
37:21 | | This is the Day of Division that you used to deny |
37:22 | | Gather those who did wrong together with their spouses and that which they used to worshi |
37:23 | | apart from God, and guide them unto the path of Hellfire |
37:24 | | And stop them. Surely they are to be questioned |
37:25 | | “What ails you that you do not help one another? |
37:26 | | Nay, but this Day they will surrender |
37:27 | | And they will turn to one another, questioning each other |
37:28 | | saying, “Truly you used to come to us from the right. |
37:29 | | They reply, “Nay, but you were not believers |
37:30 | | And we had no authority over you. Rather, you were a rebellious people |
37:31 | | So the Word of our Lord has come due for us; truly we shall taste [it] |
37:32 | | We caused you to err for truly we were errant. |
37:33 | | Verily that Day they will share in the punishment |
37:34 | | Thus do We deal with the guilty |
37:35 | | Indeed, when it was said unto them, “There is no god but God,” they waxed arrogant |
37:36 | | saying, “Are we to forsake our gods for a poet possessed? |
37:37 | | Nay! He has come with the truth and confirmed the messengers |
37:38 | | Truly you shall taste the painful punishment |
37:39 | | And you shall not be requited, save for that which you used to do |
37:40 | | Not so for God’s sincere servants |
37:41 | | For them there shall be a known provision |
37:42 | | fruits. And they will be honore |
37:43 | | in Gardens of bliss |
37:44 | | upon couches, facing one another |
37:45 | | with a cup from a gushing spring brought round |
37:46 | | white, delicious to those who drink thereof |
37:47 | | No headiness lies therein; nor are they intoxicated by it |
37:48 | | And theirs shall be maidens of modest gaze with lustrous eyes |
37:49 | | as if they were hidden eggs |
37:50 | | And they will turn to one another, questioning each other |
37:51 | | One among them will say, “I had a companio |
37:52 | | who would say, ‘Are you among those who confirm |
37:53 | | What! When we have died and are dust and bones, are we to be requited?’ |
37:54 | | He will say, “Will you look? |
37:55 | | So he will look and see him in the midst of Hellfire |
37:56 | | He will say, “By God! You did well-nigh destroy me |
37:57 | | and if not for the blessing of my Lord, I would have been among the arraigned |
37:58 | | Are we then not to die |
37:59 | | but our first death, and are we not to be punished |
37:60 | | This indeed is the great triumph! |
37:61 | | For the like of this, then, let the laborers labor |
37:62 | | Is this a better welcome or the tree of Zaqqum |
37:63 | | Truly We have made it a trial for the wrongdoers |
37:64 | | Truly it is a tree that emerges in the depths of Hellfire |
37:65 | | Its spathes are as the heads of satans |
37:66 | | They will eat thereof and fill their bellies therewith |
37:67 | | Then on top of it they will have a brew of a boiling liquid |
37:68 | | Then their return shall be unto Hellfire |
37:69 | | Truly they found their fathers astray |
37:70 | | yet they hasten in their footsteps |
37:71 | | And before them most of those of old had indeed gone astray |
37:72 | | though We had indeed sent warners among them |
37:73 | | So behold how those who were warned fared in the end |
37:74 | | Not so for God’s sincere servants |
37:75 | | And indeed Noah cried out to Us. How excellent are those who respond |
37:76 | | We saved him and his people from great distress |
37:77 | | and We made his progeny endure |
37:78 | | and We left [a blessing] upon him among later generations |
37:79 | | “Peace be upon Noah throughout the worlds. |
37:80 | | Thus do We recompense the virtuous |
37:81 | | Truly he was among Our believing servants |
37:82 | | Then We drowned the others |
37:83 | | And surely among his party was Abraham |
37:84 | | when he came unto his Lord with a sound heart |
37:85 | | when he said unto his father and his people, “What do you worship |
37:86 | | Is it a perversion, gods apart from God, that you desire |
37:87 | | What, then, think you of the Lord of the worlds? |
37:88 | | Then he cast a glance at the star |
37:89 | | and said, “Truly I am sick. |
37:90 | | But they turned their backs on him |
37:91 | | Then he went quietly to their gods and said, “Will you not eat |
37:92 | | What ails you that you speak not? |
37:93 | | Then he turned upon them, striking with his right hand |
37:94 | | Then they came to him rushing |
37:95 | | He said, “Do you worship that which you carve |
37:96 | | while God created you and that which you make? |
37:97 | | They said, “Erect a building for him and cast him into the fire. |
37:98 | | They desired to scheme against him, so We made them the lowest |
37:99 | | And he said, “Truly I am going unto my Lord. He will guide me |
37:100 | | My Lord, give unto me from among the righteous. |
37:101 | | So We gave him glad tidings of a gentle son |
37:102 | | When he had become old enough to partake of his father’s endeavors, Abraham said, “O my son! I see while dreaming that I am to sacrifice you. So consider, what do you see?” He replied, “O my father! Do as you are commanded. You will find me, God willing, among those who are patient. |
37:103 | | But when they had submitted and Abraham had laid him upon his forehead |
37:104 | | We called unto him, “O Abraham |
37:105 | | Thou hast been true to the vision.” Thus indeed do We recompense the virtuous |
37:106 | | Truly this was the manifest trial |
37:107 | | Then We ransomed him with a great sacrifice |
37:108 | | And We left [a blessing] upon him among later generations |
37:109 | | “Peace be upon Abraham. |
37:110 | | Thus do We recompense the virtuous |
37:111 | | Truly he was among Our believing servants |
37:112 | | And We gave him glad tidings of Isaac, a prophet from among the righteous |
37:113 | | And We blessed him and Isaac. And among their progeny are the virtuous and those who clearly wrong themselves |
37:114 | | And We were gracious unto Moses and Aaron |
37:115 | | We saved them and their people from great distres |
37:116 | | and helped them, so that they were the victors |
37:117 | | And We gave the two of them the Book that makes clear |
37:118 | | and guided the two of them upon the straight path |
37:119 | | And We left [a blessing] upon them among later generations |
37:120 | | “Peace be upon Moses and Aaron. |
37:121 | | Thus indeed do We recompense the virtuous |
37:122 | | Truly they were among Our believing servants |
37:123 | | And truly Elias was among the message bearer |
37:124 | | when he said to his people, “Will you not reverence |
37:125 | | Do you call upon Baal and leave the most beautiful of creators |
37:126 | | God is your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. |
37:127 | | But they denied him; so they are surely to be arraigned |
37:128 | | Not so for God’s sincere servants |
37:129 | | And We left [a blessing] upon him among later generations |
37:130 | | “Peace be upon Elias. |
37:131 | | Thus indeed do We recompense the virtuous |
37:132 | | Truly he was among Our believing servants |
37:133 | | And truly Lot was among the message bearers |
37:134 | | Behold! We saved him and his family all together |
37:135 | | save for an old woman who was among those who lagged behind |
37:136 | | Then We destroyed the others |
37:137 | | And truly you pass by them in the mornin |
37:138 | | and at night. Do you not understand |
37:139 | | And truly Jonah was among the message bearers |
37:140 | | Behold! He fled to the full-laden ship |
37:141 | | and then cast lots and was among those rejected |
37:142 | | Then the fish swallowed him, for he was blameworthy |
37:143 | | And had he not been among those who glorify |
37:144 | | he would have tarried in its belly till the Day they are resurrected |
37:145 | | So We cast him, sick, upon the barren shore |
37:146 | | And We caused a gourd tree to grow over him |
37:147 | | Then We sent him unto a hundred thousand or more |
37:148 | | And they believed; so We granted them enjoyment for a while |
37:149 | | So ask them, does your Lord have daughters while they have sons |
37:150 | | Or did We create the angels female, while they were witnesses |
37:151 | | Behold! It is of their own perversion that they say |
37:152 | | “God has begotten,” while truly they are liars |
37:153 | | Has He chosen daughters over sons |
37:154 | | What ails you? How do you judge |
37:155 | | Do you not reflect |
37:156 | | Or have you a manifest authority |
37:157 | | Bring your Book, then, if you are truthful |
37:158 | | They have made kinship between Him and the jinn—yet the jinn know that they will surely be arraigned |
37:159 | | Glory be to God above that which they ascribe |
37:160 | | Not so for God’s sincere servants |
37:161 | | For truly neither you nor that which you worshi |
37:162 | | can tempt any against Him |
37:163 | | save he who is to burn in Hellfire |
37:164 | | There is none among us, but that he has a known station |
37:165 | | And truly we are those who are ranged [in ranks] |
37:166 | | Truly we are those who glorify |
37:167 | | Indeed, they used to say |
37:168 | | “If only we had a reminder from those of old |
37:169 | | then we would indeed be God’s sincere servants. |
37:170 | | But they disbelieved in it. So soon they will know |
37:171 | | for indeed Our Word has already gone forth unto Our message bearer |
37:172 | | that they will surely be helped |
37:173 | | and that Our host will surely be victorious |
37:174 | | So turn away from them for a time |
37:175 | | and observe them; for they will soon observe |
37:176 | | Do they seek to hasten Our Punishment |
37:177 | | When it alights in their very midst, evil will be the morning of those who were warned |
37:178 | | So turn away from them for a time |
37:179 | | and observe; for they will soon observe |
37:180 | | Glory be to thy Lord, the Lord of Might, above that which they ascribe |
37:181 | | Peace be upon the message bearers |
37:182 | | And praise be to God, Lord of the worlds |
