---|
33:1 | | O Prophet, be conscious of God and do not listen to the unbelievers nor the hypocrites, indeed God is full of Knowledge and Wisdom |
33:2 | | But follow that which comes to you by inspiration from your Lord, for God is well acquainted with all that you do |
33:3 | | And put your trust in God, and enough is God as a manager of affairs |
33:4 | | God has not made for any person two hearts in his one body, nor has He made your wives whom you divorce by Zihar your mothers, nor has He made those who you call sons, your sons. These are your sayings, but God tells you the truth, and He shows the right way |
33:5 | | Call them by the names of their fathers. That is more just in the sight of God, but if you do not know their father’s names, call them your brothers in faith, or your friends, but there is no blame on you if you make a mistake concerning this. What counts is the intention of your hearts, and God is Oft-Returning, Mercifully Redeeming |
33:6 | | The prophet is closer to the believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. But blood relatives among you have closer personal ties in the decree of God, than the community of believers and Muhajirs. But still do what is just to your closest friends. Such is the writing in the decree of God |
33:7 | | And remember We took from the Prophets their covenant. As We did from you, from Noah, Abraham, Moses, and Jesus the son of Mary. We took from them a solemn covenant |
33:8 | | That God may question the caretakers of truth, concerning the truth they were charged with, and He has prepared for the unbelievers a terrible penalty |
33:9 | | O you who believe, remember the grace of God bestowed on you, when there came down on you an army to overwhelm you, but We sent against them a storm and forces that they could not see, but God sees clearly all that you do |
33:10 | | Behold, they came upon you from above you and from below you, and behold, the eyes became dim, and the hearts gaped up to the throats, and you had contradicting thoughts about God |
33:11 | | In that situation were the believers tried. They were shaken as by a tremendous shaking |
33:12 | | And behold, the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease say, “God and His messenger promised us nothing but delusion. |
33:13 | | Behold, a group among them said, “You people of Yathrib, you cannot stand the attack, therefore go back.” And a group of them asks for leave of the Prophet saying, “Truly our houses are bare, and exposed,” though they were not exposed. They intended nothing but to run away |
33:14 | | And if an entry had been made for them from the sides of the city, and they had been incited to sedition, they would certainly have brought it to pass, with only a brief delay |
33:15 | | Even though they had already took a covenant with God not to turn their backs and a covenant with God must be answered for |
33:16 | | Say, “Running away will not profit you if you are running away from death or slaughter, and even if you do escape, no more than brief respite will you be allowed to enjoy. |
33:17 | | Say, “Who is it that can screen you from God if it is His will to give you punishment or to give you mercy?” Nor will they find for themselves, besides God, any protector nor helper |
33:18 | | Indeed God knows those among you who keep the people back, and those who say to their brothers, “Come along with us,” but they do not come to the fight, except for a few |
33:19 | | Who rely on you. And when danger arises, you will see them looking to you, their eyes revolving, like one of those who death hovers over, but when the danger has passed, they will strike you with sharp tongues, covetous of the good. Such people have no faith, so God has made their deeds of no effect, and that is easy for God |
33:20 | | They think that the confederates have not withdrawn, and if the confederates should come again, they would wish they were in the deserts wandering among the Bedouins, and seeking news about you from a safe distance, and if they were in your presence, they would fight only a little while |
33:21 | | You indeed have in the messenger of God, an excellent example of conduct, for anyone whose hope is in God and the Last Day, and who engages much in the praise of God |
33:22 | | When the believers saw the confederate army they said, “This is what God and his messenger promised us, and God and His messenger told us the truth.” And it only added to their faith and their zeal for obedience |
33:23 | | Among the believers are people who have been true to their covenant with God. Of them some have completed their vow to the utmost, and some still wait, but they have never changed their determination in the least |
33:24 | | God rewards people of truth for their truth, and punishes the hypocrites if that is His will, or He turns to them in mercy, for God is Oft-Forgiving, Mercifully Redeeming |
33:25 | | And God turned back the unbelievers with all their fury. No advantage did they gain, and enough is God for the believers in their fight, and God is full of strength, able to enforce His will |
33:26 | | And the people of the Book who aided them, God took them down from their strongholds and cast fear into their hearts. So that some you slew, and some you made prisoners |
33:27 | | And He made you heirs of their lands, their houses, their goods, and of a land which you had not visited before, and God has power over all things |
33:28 | | O prophet, say to your wives, “If you want the life of the present and its glitter, then come, I will provide for your enjoyment and will let you go in a handsome manner |
33:29 | | But if you want God and His messenger, and the home of the hereafter, indeed God has prepared for the good doers among you, a great reward |
33:30 | | O wives of the Prophet, if any of you were proven guilty of unseemly conduct, the punishment would be doubled for her, and that is easy for God. 30 (End of Part 21 |
33:31 | | But any of you who are devout in the service of God and His messenger, and works righteousness, twice will We grant a reward to her, and We have prepared for her generous sustenance |
33:32 | | O wives of the Prophet, you are not like any of the other women. If you realize it, do not speak intuitively, lest one in whose heart is sickness should be moved with expectations, but speak as you should |
33:33 | | And dwell in your homes without flaunting yourselves like those of the days of ignorance, and establish prayer, and give zakat, and follow God and His messenger. God wishes only to remove all character flaws from you, and the members of your family, in order to refine you |
33:34 | | And recite what is rehearsed to you in your homes from the signs of God and His wisdom, for God is Subtle and Aware |
33:35 | | For Muslim men and women, for believing men and women, for devout men and women, for true men and women, for men and women who are patient, for men and women who humble themselves, for men and women who give in charity, for men and women who fast, for men and women who guard their chastity, and for men and women who engage much in God's praise, for them God has prepared forgiveness and a great reward |
33:36 | | It is not fitting for a believer, man or woman, when a matter has been decided by God and His messenger to differ concerning that decision. If anyone ignores God and His messenger, he is certainly and clearly on a wrong path |
33:37 | | Behold, you said to one who had received the grace of God and your favor, "Hold on to your wife, and be conscious of God.” But you hid in your heart that which God was about to make manifest. You feared the people, but it is more fitting that you fear God. Then when Zaid divorced her following the necessary procedures, We joined her in marriage to you, in order that there may be no difficulty on the believers concerning marriage with the wives of those who you call your sons, after they had divorced them following the necessary procedures, and God's command must be fulfilled |
33:38 | | There can be no blame on the Prophet for what God has indicated to him as a duty. It was the Sunnah of God among those in the past who have passed away, and the command of God is a decree determined |
33:39 | | Those who preach the Messages of God, and fear Him, and fear none but God, enough is God to call them to account |
33:40 | | Muhammad is not the father of any of your people, but he is the messenger of God, and the seal of the Prophets, and God has full knowledge of all things |
33:41 | | O you who believe, glorify God by praising Him, and do this often |
33:42 | | And praise Him morning and evening |
33:43 | | He is the One Who sends blessings on you, as do His angels, that He may bring you out from the depths of darkness into light, and He is full of mercy to the believers |
33:44 | | Their salutation on the day they meet Him will be “Peace.” And He has prepared for them a generous reward |
33:45 | | O Prophet, truly We have sent you as a witness, a bearer of hope, and a warner |
33:46 | | And as one who invites to God's grace by His permission, and as a lamp spreading light |
33:47 | | So give hope to the believers that they will have great bounty from God |
33:48 | | And do not follow the unbelievers and the hypocrites, and ignore their annoyances, and put your trust in God, for enough is God as a manager of affairs |
33:49 | | O you who believe, when you marry believing women, and then divorce them before you have touched them, no period of ‘iddat have you to count concerning them. But give them a gift, and then let them go |
33:50 | | O Prophet, We have made permissible to you, your wives to whom you have given their dowry, and those whom your right hand possess, out of those who God has assigned to you, and daughters of your paternal uncles and aunts, and daughters of your maternal uncles and aunts who migrated with you, and any believing woman who dedicates herself to the Prophet, if the Prophet wishes to wed her. This is only for you, and not for the believers at large. We know what We have appointed for them concerning their wives and those whom their right hands possess, in order that there will be no difficulty for you, and God is Oft-Forgiving, Mercifully Redeeming |
33:51 | | You may defer the turn of any of them you please, and you may receive any you please, and there is no blame on you if you invite one whose turn you had set aside. This is better for cooling their eyes, preventing their grief, and providing satisfaction from what you have given them, and God knows all that is in your hearts, and God is All Knowing, Most Understanding |
33:52 | | It is not permissible for you to marry women after this, nor to leave them for other wives, even though their beauty attracts you, except any your right hand possess, and God watches over all things |
33:53 | | O you who believe, do not enter the Prophet’s houses until you are given permission to come eat, and then not so early as to wait for its preparation. But when you are invited, feel free to enter, but once you have finished your meal, leave without making conversation. Such behavior annoys the Prophet. He is shy about asking you to leave, but God is not shy about telling you the truth, and when you ask them for something, ask them from behind a screen. That makes for greater purity for your hearts and for theirs, nor is it right for you to annoy God's messenger, nor should you marry his widows after him at any time. Truly such a thing is in God's sight an enormity |
33:54 | | Whether you reveal anything or conceal it, indeed God has full knowledge of all things |
33:55 | | There is no blame on these women if they appear before their parents or their sons, their brothers or their brother’s sons, or their sisters’ sons, or their maids, or those whom their right hands possess, but be conscious of God, for God is witness to all things |
33:56 | | God and His angels send blessings on the Prophet. O you who believe, send blessings on him, and salute him with greetings |
33:57 | | Indeed those who defy God and defy His messenger, God has cursed them in the present and in the future, and has prepared for them a crushing punishment |
33:58 | | And those who distress believing men and women undeservedly bear on themselves a glaring sin |
33:59 | | "O prophet, tell your wives and daughters, and the believing women, that they should draw their outer wear over themselves. That is more modest, that they may be acknowledged but not harassed, and God is Oft-Forgiving, Mercifully Redeeming. |
33:60 | | Truly if the hypocrites, and those in whose hearts is a disease, and those who stir up sedition in the city do not desist, We will certainly stir you up against them. Then they will not be able to stay there as your neighbors for any length of time |
33:61 | | They will have a curse on them, and whenever they are found, they will be seized and slain without mercy |
33:62 | | Such was the Sunnah of God among those who lived. No change will you find in the Sunnah of God |
33:63 | | People ask you concerning the Hour. Say, “The knowledge of it is with God.” But what will make you understand that perhaps the Hour is near |
33:64 | | Indeed God has cursed the unbelievers and prepared for them a blazing fire |
33:65 | | To dwell therein forever. No protector will they find, nor helper |
33:66 | | The day that their faces will be turned upside down in the fire they will say, “Woe to us, we wish that we had obeyed God and obeyed the messenger. |
33:67 | | And they would say, “Our Lord, We followed our leaders and our great ones, but they misled us as to the right path |
33:68 | | “Our Lord, double their punishment, and curse them with a great curse. |
33:69 | | O you who believe, be not like those who upset and insulted Moses, but God cleared him of what they uttered, and he was honorable in God's sight |
33:70 | | O you who believe, be conscious of God, and say a word directed to the right |
33:71 | | That He may make your conduct whole and sound, and forgive you your sins. He who follows God and His messenger have already attained the highest achievement |
33:72 | | We indeed offered the trust to the heavens and the earth, and the mountains, but they refused to undertake it, being afraid of it, but the human being undertook it. Indeed he was uninformed and thus misjudged |
33:73 | | With the result that God has to punish the hypocritical men and women, and the unbelieving men and women, but God turns in mercy to the believers, men and women, for God is Oft-Forgiving, Mercifully Redeeming |
