| | Abdel Haleem rendition of Surah The Poets(ash-Shu`ara`) --- |
---|
26:1 | | Ta Sin Mi |
26:2 | | These are the verses of the Scripture that makes things clear |
26:3 | | [Prophet], are you going to worry yourself to death because they will not believe |
26:4 | | If We had wished, We could have sent them down a sign from heaven, at which their necks would stay bowed in utter humility |
26:5 | | Whenever they are brought a new revelation from the Lord of Mercy, they turn away |
26:6 | | they deny it, but the truth of what they scorned will soon hit them |
26:7 | | Do they not see the earth, and what noble kinds of thing We grow in it |
26:8 | | There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe |
26:9 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:10 | | Your Lord called to Moses: ‘Go to those wrongdoers |
26:11 | | the people of Pharaoh. Will they not take heed?&rsquo |
26:12 | | Moses said, ‘My Lord, I fear they will call me a liar |
26:13 | | and I will feel stressed and tongue-tied, so send Aaron too |
26:14 | | besides, they have a chargeagainst me, and I fear they may kill me.&rsquo |
26:15 | | God said, ‘No [they will not]. Go, both of you, with Our signs––We shall be with you, listen-ing |
26:16 | | Go, both of you, to Pharaoh and say, “We bring a message from the Lord of the Worlds |
26:17 | | let the Children of Israel leave with us.” &rsquo |
26:18 | | Pharaoh said, ‘Did we not bring you up as a child among us? Did you not stay with us for many years |
26:19 | | And then you committed that crime of yours: you were so ungrateful.&rsquo |
26:20 | | Moses replied, ‘I was misguided when I did i |
26:21 | | and I fled from you in fear; later my Lord gave me wisdom and made me one of His messengers |
26:22 | | And is this- that you have enslaved the Children of Israel- the favour with which you reproach me?&rsquo |
26:23 | | Pharaoh asked, ‘What is this “Lord of the Worlds”?&rsquo |
26:24 | | Moses replied, ‘He is the Lord of the heavens and earth and everything between them. If you would only have faith!&rsquo |
26:25 | | Pharaoh said to those present, ‘Do you hear what he says?&rsquo |
26:26 | | Moses said, ‘He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers.&rsquo |
26:27 | | Pharaoh said, ‘This messenger who has been sent to you is truly possessed.&rsquo |
26:28 | | Moses continued, ‘Lord of the East and West and everything between them. If you would only use your reason!&rsquo |
26:29 | | But Pharaoh said [to him], ‘If you take any god other than me, I will throw you into prison,&rsquo |
26:30 | | and Moses asked, ‘Even if I show you something convincing?&rsquo |
26:31 | | ‘Show it then,’ said Pharaoh, ‘if you are telling the truth.&rsquo |
26:32 | | So Moses threw down his staff and- lo and behold!- it became a snake for everyone to see |
26:33 | | Then he drew out his hand and- lo and behold!- it was white for the onlookers to see |
26:34 | | Pharaoh said to the counsellors around him, ‘This man is a learned sorcerer |
26:35 | | He means to use his sorcery to drive you out of your land! What do you suggest?&rsquo |
26:36 | | They answered, ‘Delay him and his brother for a while, and send messengers to all the citie |
26:37 | | to bring every accomplished sorcerer to you.&rsquo |
26:38 | | The sorcerers were [to be] assembled at the appointed time on a certain da |
26:39 | | and the people were asked |
26:40 | | ‘Are you all coming? We may follow the sorcerers if they win!&rsquo |
26:41 | | When the sorcerers came, they said to Pharaoh, ‘Shall we be rewarded if we win?&rsquo |
26:42 | | and he said, ‘Yes, and you will join my inner court.&rsquo |
26:43 | | Moses said to them, ‘Throw down whatever you will.&rsquo |
26:44 | | They threw their ropes and staffs, saying, ‘By Pharaoh’s might, we shall be victorious.&rsquo |
26:45 | | But Moses threw his staff and- lo and behold!- it swallowed up their tricker |
26:46 | | and the sorcerers fell down on their knees |
26:47 | | exclaiming, ‘We believe in the Lord of the Worlds |
26:48 | | the Lord of Moses and Aaron.&rsquo |
26:49 | | Pharaoh said, ‘How dare you believe in him before I have given you permission? He must be the master who taught you sorcery! Soon you will see: I will cut off your alternate hands and feet and then crucify the lot of you!&rsquo |
26:50 | | ‘That will do us no harm,’ they said, ‘for we are sure to return to our Lord |
26:51 | | We hope that our Lord will forgive us our sins, as we were the first to believe.&rsquo |
26:52 | | Then We revealed Our will to Moses, ‘Leave with My servants by night, for you will be pursued!&rsquo |
26:53 | | Pharaoh sent messengers into the cities, proclaiming |
26:54 | | ‘These people are a puny band–&ndash |
26:55 | | they have enraged us |
26:56 | | and we are a large army, on the alert.&rsquo |
26:57 | | So it was that We made them leave their gardens and their springs |
26:58 | | their treasures and their noble dwellings |
26:59 | | We gave [such] things [later]to the Children of Israel |
26:60 | | Pharaoh and his people pursued them at sunrise |
26:61 | | and as soon as the two sides came within sight of one another, Moses’ followers said, ‘We shall definitely be caught.&rsquo |
26:62 | | Moses said, ‘No, my Lord is with me: He will guide me,&rsquo |
26:63 | | and We revealed to Moses: ‘Strike the sea with your staff.’ It parted- each side like a mighty mountain |
26:64 | | and We brought the others to that place |
26:65 | | We saved Moses and all his companions |
26:66 | | and drowned the rest |
26:67 | | There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe |
26:68 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:69 | | Tell them the story of Abraham |
26:70 | | when he asked his father and his people, ‘What do you worship?&rsquo |
26:71 | | They said, ‘We worship idols, and are constantly in attendance on them.&rsquo |
26:72 | | He asked, ‘Do they hear you when you call |
26:73 | | Do they help or harm you?&rsquo |
26:74 | | They replied, ‘No, but this is what we saw our fathers doing.&rsquo |
26:75 | | Abraham said, ‘Those idols you have worshipped |
26:76 | | you and your forefathers |
26:77 | | are my enemies; not so the Lord of the Worlds |
26:78 | | who created me. It is He who guides me |
26:79 | | He who gives me food and drink |
26:80 | | He who cures me when I am ill |
26:81 | | He who will make me die and then give me life again |
26:82 | | and He who will, I hope, forgive my faults on the Day of Judgement |
26:83 | | My Lord, grant me wisdom; join me with the righteous |
26:84 | | give me a good name among later generations |
26:85 | | make me one of those given the Garden of Bliss |
26:86 | | forgive my father, for he is one of those who have gone astray |
26:87 | | and do not disgrace me on the Day when all people are resurrected |
26:88 | | the Day when neither wealth nor children can help |
26:89 | | when the only one who will be saved is the one who comes before God with a heart devoted to Him.&rsquo |
26:90 | | When the Garden is brought near to the righteou |
26:91 | | and the Fire is placed in full view of the misguided |
26:92 | | it will be said to them, ‘Where are those you worshippe |
26:93 | | beside God? Can they help you now, or even help themselves?&rsquo |
26:94 | | and then they will all be hurled into Hell, together with those that misled them |
26:95 | | and all Iblis’s supporters |
26:96 | | There they will say to their gods, as they bicker among themselves |
26:97 | | ‘We were clearly misguide |
26:98 | | when we made you equal with the Lord of the Worlds |
26:99 | | It was the evildoers who led us astray |
26:100 | | and now we have no intercesso |
26:101 | | and no true friend |
26:102 | | If only we could live our lives again, we would be true believers!&rsquo |
26:103 | | There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe |
26:104 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:105 | | The people of Noah, too, called the messengers liars |
26:106 | | Their brother Noah said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God |
26:107 | | I am a faithful messenger sent to you |
26:108 | | be mindful of God and obey me |
26:109 | | I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds |
26:110 | | be mindful of God and obey me.&rsquo |
26:111 | | They answered, ‘Why should we believe you when the worst sort of people follow you?&rsquo |
26:112 | | He said, ‘What knowledge do I have of what they used to do |
26:113 | | It is for my Lord alone to bring them to account- if only you could see |
26:114 | | I will not drive believers away |
26:115 | | I am here only to give people a clear warning.&rsquo |
26:116 | | So they said, ‘Noah, if you do not stop this, you will be stoned.&rsquo |
26:117 | | He said, ‘My Lord, my people have rejected me |
26:118 | | so make a firm judgement between me and them, and save me and my believing followers.&rsquo |
26:119 | | So We saved him and his followers in the fully laden ship |
26:120 | | and drowned the rest |
26:121 | | There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe |
26:122 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:123 | | The people of Ad, too, called the messengers liars |
26:124 | | Their brother Hud said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God |
26:125 | | I am a faithful messenger sent to you |
26:126 | | be mindful of God and obey me |
26:127 | | I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds |
26:128 | | How can you be so vain that you set up monuments on every high place |
26:129 | | Do you build fortresses because you hope to be immortal |
26:130 | | Why do you act like tyrants whenever you attack someone |
26:131 | | Be mindful of God and obey me |
26:132 | | be mindful of Him who has provided you with everything you know |
26:133 | | He has given you livestock, sons |
26:134 | | gardens, springs |
26:135 | | for I truly fear that the torment of a grievous day will overtake you.&rsquo |
26:136 | | They replied, ‘It makes no difference to us whether you warn us or not |
26:137 | | for we only do what our forefathers used to do |
26:138 | | we shall not be punished.&rsquo |
26:139 | | They denounced him as a liar, and so We destroyed them. There truly is a sign in this, though most of them do not believe |
26:140 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:141 | | The people of Thamud, too, called the messengers liars |
26:142 | | Their brother Salih said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God |
26:143 | | I am a faithful messenger to you |
26:144 | | be mindful of God and obey me |
26:145 | | I ask no reward from you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds |
26:146 | | [Do you think] you will be left secure for ever in what you have here |
26:147 | | gardens, springs |
26:148 | | fields, palm trees laden with fruit |
26:149 | | carving your fine houses from the mountains |
26:150 | | Be mindful of God and obey me |
26:151 | | do not obey those who are given to exces |
26:152 | | and who spread corruption in the land instead of doing what is right.&rsquo |
26:153 | | They said, ‘You are bewitched |
26:154 | | You are nothing but a man like us. Show us a sign, if you are telling the truth.&rsquo |
26:155 | | He said, ‘Here is a camel. She should have her turn to drink and so should you, each on a specified day |
26:156 | | so do not harm her, or the punishment of a terrible day will befall you.&rsquo |
26:157 | | But they hamstrung her. In the morning they had cause to regret it |
26:158 | | the punishment fell upon them. There truly is a sign in this, though most of them will not believe |
26:159 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:160 | | The people of Lot, too, called the messengers liars |
26:161 | | Their brother Lot said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God |
26:162 | | I am a faithful messenger to you |
26:163 | | be mindful of God and obey me |
26:164 | | I ask no reward from you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds |
26:165 | | Must you, unlike [other] people, lust after male |
26:166 | | and abandon the wives that God has created for you? You are exceeding all bounds,&rsquo |
26:167 | | but they replied, ‘Lot! If you do not stop this, you will be driven away.&rsquo |
26:168 | | So he said, ‘I loathe what you do |
26:169 | | Lord, save me and my family from what they are doing.&rsquo |
26:170 | | We saved him and all his family |
26:171 | | except for an old woman who stayed behind |
26:172 | | then We destroyed the others |
26:173 | | and poured a rain of destruction down upon them. How dreadful that rain was for those who had been forewarned |
26:174 | | There truly is a sign in this, though most of them will not believe |
26:175 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:176 | | The forest-dwellers, too, called the messengers liars |
26:177 | | Shuayb said to them, ‘Will you not be mindful of God |
26:178 | | I am a faithful messenger to you |
26:179 | | be mindful of God and obey me |
26:180 | | I ask no reward of you, for my only reward is with the Lord of the Worlds |
26:181 | | Give full measure: do not sell others short |
26:182 | | Weigh with correct scales |
26:183 | | do not deprive people of what is theirs. Do not spread corruption on earth |
26:184 | | Be mindful of God who created you and former generations,&rsquo |
26:185 | | but they replied, ‘You are bewitched |
26:186 | | You are nothing but a man like us. In fact we think you are a liar |
26:187 | | Make bits of the heavens fall down on us, if you are telling the truth.&rsquo |
26:188 | | He said, ‘My Lord knows best what you do.&rsquo |
26:189 | | They called him a liar, and so the torment of the Day of Shadow came upon them- it was the torment of a terrible day |
26:190 | | There truly is a sign in this, though most of them will not believe |
26:191 | | your Lord alone is the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:192 | | Truly, this Quran has been sent down by the Lord of the Worlds |
26:193 | | the Trustworthy Spirit brought it dow |
26:194 | | to your heart [Prophet], so that you could bring warnin |
26:195 | | in a clear Arabic tongue |
26:196 | | This was foretold in the scriptures of earlier religions |
26:197 | | Is it not proof enough for them that the learned men of the Children of Israel have recognized it |
26:198 | | If We had sent it down to someone who was not an Arab |
26:199 | | and he had recited it to them, they still would not have believed in it |
26:200 | | So We make it pass straight through the hearts of the guilty |
26:201 | | they will not believe in it until they see the grievous torment |
26:202 | | which will suddenly hit them when they are not expecting it |
26:203 | | and then they will say, ‘Can we have more time?&rsquo |
26:204 | | How can they ask that Our punishment be brought to them sooner |
26:205 | | Think, if we let them enjoy this life for some year |
26:206 | | and then the promised torment came upon them |
26:207 | | what good would their past enjoyment be to them |
26:208 | | Never have We destroyed a town without sending down messengers to warn it |
26:209 | | as a reminder from Us: We are never unjust |
26:210 | | It was not the jinn who brought down this Quran |
26:211 | | it is neither in their interests nor in their power |
26:212 | | indeed they are prevented from overhearing it |
26:213 | | So [Prophet] do not invoke any gods beside God, or you will incur punishment |
26:214 | | Warn your nearest kinsfol |
26:215 | | and lower your wing tenderly over the believers who follow you |
26:216 | | If they disobey you, say, ‘I bear no responsibility for your actions.&rsquo |
26:217 | | Put your trust in the Almighty, the Merciful |
26:218 | | who sees you when you stand up [for prayer] |
26:219 | | and sees your movements among the worshippers |
26:220 | | He is the All Hearing, the All Knowing |
26:221 | | Shall I tell you who the jinn come down to |
26:222 | | They come down to every lying sinne |
26:223 | | who readily lends an ear to them, and most of them are liars |
26:224 | | only those who are lost in error follow the poets |
26:225 | | Do you not see how they rove aimlessly in every valley |
26:226 | | how they say what they do not do |
26:227 | | Not so those [poets] who believe, do good deeds, remember God often, and defend themselves after they have been wronged. The evildoers will find out what they will return to |
