---
10:1 ALIF LAM RA. These are the Ayats (signs or verses) of the Book of Wisdom (or Wise Scripture)
10:2 Is it a wonder for mankind that We inspired a man from amongst themselves, saying "Warn you mankind; and give glad tidings to those who believe, that for them there are lofty ranks with their Lord?" The disbelievers say, "Verily, this is a
10:3 Verily, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and the earth in six Days (or Periods, Ages, Cycles); then He established (or ascended) Himself firmly on the Throne (of Authority), to govern (direct, regulate) all things; there is no intercessor, exc
10:4 Unto Him is your return, all of you. It is the promise of Allah in truth. Verily, He produces creation, then He reproduces it, that He may recompense with justice those who believe and do what is right; but those who disbelieve, for them is a drink of bo
10:5 He it is who made the sun a glorious brightness (splendour), and the moon for a light, and decreed for it measured stages, that you may know the number of the years and the reckoning. Allah created not all this but in truth. He details the signs (or reve
10:6 Verily, in the alternation of night and day, and in all that Allah has created in the heavens and the earth, are signs unto a people who fear Him (are in awe or ward off evil)
10:7 Verily, those who expect not for the meeting with Us, and are content with the life of this world, and are comforted (or secure) therein, and those who are neglectful of our Signs (or revelations)
10:8 Their resort is the Fire because of that which they have earned
10:9 Verily, those who believe and act righteously, their Lord guides them by their faith; beneath them shall rivers flow in the Gardens of Delight
10:10 Their cry therein shall be, "Glory be to Thee, O Allah!" and their salutation therein shall be, "Peace!" and the end of their cry shall be, "Praise be to Allah, the Lord (Cherisher and Sustainer) of the Worlds!"
10:11 And if Allah should hasten for men the evil they earn, as they would fain hasten on the good, their respite would surely have expired. But We suffer those who look not for (or expect not) the meeting with Us to wander blindly on in their rebellion
10:12 When misfortune touches man, he calls Us, whether reclining, sitting or standing; but when We have removed from him his distress, he passes on as though he had not called on Us because of the misfortune that touched him. Thus unto the extravagant is made
10:13 We have already destroyed generations before you when they did wrong, and there came to them their Messengers with manifest signs, but they would not believe. Thus do We reward the guilty people
10:14 Then We made you Vicegerents (or their successors) in the earth after them, that We may see how you will act
10:15 But when Our evident Signs (revelations) are recited to them, those who expect not the meeting with Us say, "Bring a Lecture (Quran) other than this; or change it." Say, "It is not for me to, change it of my own accord; I do not follow aug
10:16 Say, "Had Allah willed, I should not have recited it to you, nor would He have made it known to you. I dwelt amongst you a lifetime before it came to me; have you not then any sense?"
10:17 Who does greater wrong than he who forges a lie concerning Allah, or denies His revelations? Verily, the guilty are never successful
10:18 They worship beside Allah what can neither harm them nor profit them, and they say, "These are our intercessors with Allah!" Say, "Will you inform Allah of something that He knows not in the heavens or the earth?" Praised be He, and e
10:19 Mankind were but one nation once, then they disagreed; and had it not been for a Word (decree) from your Lord which had already gone out, their differences would have been settled between them already
10:20 They say, "If only a sign had been sent down upon him from his Lord?" Say, "The unseen belongs only to Allah; but wait you for a while. Verily, I, too, am waiting with you!"
10:21 When We have let men taste of mercy after some adversity which has afflicted them, behold! They use a plot against Our revelations! Say, "Allah is quicker at plotting. Verily, Our Messengers (angels) write down that which you plot."
10:22 He it is who makes you travel in the land and sea, until when you are in the ships, and these carry them afloat with a favourable wind, and they rejoice therein, there comes to them a violent wind, and there comes to them a wave from every side, and they
10:23 But when He has delivered them, behold! They are rebellious in the earth unjustly; - O mankind! Your rebelliousness is only against yourselves. You have but a brief provision in the life of this world, then unto Us is your return, and We will inform you
10:24 Verily, the likeness of the life of this world is like water which We send down from the sky, and the plants of the earth, from which men and cattle eat, are mingled therewith, until when the earth puts on its ornament and is adorned, and her people thin
10:25 Allah calls unto the abode of peace, and guides whom He will into the Straight Way (i.e. True Religion or The Surrender, Islam)
10:26 To those who do what is good, (is granted) goodness and increase! Neither does darkness nor abasement cover their faces! Such are Companions of the Garden (Paradise); they will dwell therein
10:27 But, as for those who have earned ill, the reward of evil is the like thereof; abasement (ignominy) shall cover them - They shall have none to protect them against Allah - as though their faces were veiled with the deep darkness of the night. Such are th
10:28 And on the day when We gather them all together, then We will say to those who associated other gods (with Us), "To your places, you and your associates!" and We will separate them; and their associates will say, "It was not us you worship
10:29 "But Allah is witness enough between us and you, that we were unaware of your worship."
10:30 There shall every soul experience what it did (or has sent on) before; and they shall be returned unto Allah, their rightful Lord, and that which they used to invent shall fail them
10:31 Say, "Who provides you from the heaven and the earth? Who has power over hearing and sight? And who brings forth the living from the dead, and brings forth the dead from the living? And who governs all affairs (or regulates, directs the course of ev
10:32 Such, then, is Allah, your true Lord! What is there after the truth but error? How then can you turn away
10:33 Thus is the Word of your Lord justified against those who commit abomination (or rebel) - verily, they believe not
10:34 Say, "Is there any of your associates who can originate a creation and then reproduce it?" Say, "Allah produces creation, then reproduces it. How then are you misled (deluded)?"
10:35 Say, "Is there any of your associates who guides unto the truth?" Say, "Allah guides unto the truth." Is then He who guides unto the truth more worthy to be followed, or he that guides not except he is himself guided? What ails you th
10:36 But most of them follow naught but conjecture (suspicion, fancy, guesswork, speculation); verily, conjecture can by no means take the place of (or avail against) truth. Verily, Allah is Aware of what they do
10:37 This Quran could not have been devised by any beside (or in opposition to) Allah; but it is a confirmation (or verification) of that which came before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book (Scriptures, or that which was decreed for mankind) - there is
10:38 Do they say, "He hath devised it"? Say then, "Bring a surah (chapter) like it, and call, if you can, on other than Allah, if you are truthful!"
10:39 Yet they call that a lie the knowledge of which they cannot compass, even before its Taawil (interpretation, elucidation, explanation, fulfilment, effects) has reached them. Thus did those before them make charges of falsehood. But see what was the conse
10:40 Of them are some who believe therein; and of them are some who do not believe therein; but your Lord is best aware of the corrupters
10:41 But if they deny you, say, "I have my work, and you have your work; you are innocent of what I work, and I am innocent of what you work."
10:42 There are some of them who listen to you. But can you make the deaf to hear, when they have no understanding (or sense)
10:43 And of them are some who look at you. But can you guide the blind, though they cannot see
10:44 Verily, Allah wrongs not man in aught, but men do wrong themselves
10:45 And on the day when We will gather them together, it will be as though they had not stayed save an hour of the day. They shall know each other. Lost will be those who denied the meeting with Allah, and were not guided
10:46 Whether We show you something of that which We promised them, or whether We will take you to Ourself, still unto Us is their return; and Allah is also a witness to what they do
10:47 To every people was sent a Messenger; and when their Messenger comes to them (on the Day of Judgment), it will be judged between them fairly, and they will not be wronged
10:48 But they say, "When will this promise come to pass, if you tell the truth?"
10:49 Say, "I have no power to harm or profit myself (or I have no power myself to harm or profit), save what Allah wills. Every nation has its appointed time; when their appointed time comes to them they cannot delay it for an hour or hasten it."
10:50 Say, "Have you considered, when His punishment comes to you, by night or day, which portion thereof will the sinners wish to hasten
10:51 And when it has fallen on you, will you believe in it. What! Believe now, when you wished to hasten it through unbelief
10:52 Then shall it be said to those who have done wrong, "Taste you the torment of Eternity! Are you recompensed except for that which you have earned? "
10:53 They will ask you to inform them whether it be true. Say, "Yea, by my Lord! Verily, it is the truth, nor can you escape."
10:54 Every soul that has done wrong, if it had whatever is in the earth, would seek to ransom itself therewith. They will utter their repentance when they see the torment; but it shall be decided between them with justice, nor shall they be wronged
10:55 Is it not the case that to Allah belongs all that is in the heavens and in the earth? Is it not the case that the promise of Allah is certainly true? But most of them understand not
10:56 Is it He Who gives life and He Who takes it, and unto Him shall you all be returned
10:57 O mankind! There has come to you a direction (guidance, exhortation) from your Lord, and a healing for the disease in your breasts, and a guidance and a mercy for believers
10:58 Say, "In the grace of Allah and in His mercy let them rejoice!" It is better than that (wealth) which they hoard
10:59 Say, "See you what Allah has sent down to you for sustenance? Yet you have made some unlawful and some lawful. Say, "Has Allah permitted you, or do you invent lies concerning Allah
10:60 What will those who invent lies concerning Allah think on the Day of Resurrection? Verily, Allah is truly Bountiful towards mankind, but most of them give no thanks
10:61 Thee (Muhammad) are not occupied with any business, nor recite you a lecture from this Scripture, and you (mankind) perform no act, but We are Witness when you are engaged therein: nor does the weight of an atom escape your Lord in the earth or in heaven
10:62 Behold! Verily, the friends of Allah are those on whom fear comes not, nor shall they grieve
10:63 They who believe and who fear (do their duty to Allah
10:64 For them are good tidings in the life of this world, and in the Hereafter - There is no changing the words of Allah! - That is the Supreme Triumph
10:65 Let not their speech grieve you; verily, power belongs wholly to Allah. He is the Hearer and Knower
10:66 Lo! Is it not unto Allah that belongs whoever is in the heavens and whoever is in the earth? What then do they follow who call on associates other than Allah? Verily, they follow nothing but fantasy, and verily, they do naught but lie (or guess)
10:67 He it is who made for you the night, that you might rest therein, and the day to see therein; in that, verily, are signs unto a people who heed
10:68 They say, "Allah has taken to Himself a son." Glorified be He! He is Self-sufficient! His is whatever is in the heavens, and whatever is in the earth. You have no warrant for this! Do you say about Allah, that which you know not
10:69 Say, "Verily, those who invent a lie concerning Allah will not succeed."
10:70 A brief provision in this world, then unto Us is their return! Then will We make them taste a dreadful doom because they disbelieved
10:71 Recite to them the story of Noah, when he said to his people, "O my people! If my stay with you and my reminding you of the signs of Allah, be offensive to you, yet in Allah do I put my trust. So decide on your course of action, you and your associa
10:72 But if you turn your backs, (remember) I asked you not for wages; my wages are only due from Allah, and I am bidden to be of those who Surrender (i.e. accept Islam)"
10:73 But they called him a liar; and We saved him, and those with him, in the ark; and We made them Vicegerents (successors, agents, inheritors), and drowned those who had denied Our revelations. See then the nature of the consequences for those who had been
10:74 Then We raised up after him messengers unto their people, and they also came to them with manifest signs; but they would not believe in what they had called a lie before. Thus do We set a stamp upon the heart of the transgressors
10:75 Then after them We sent Moses and Aaron unto Pharaoh and his chiefs with Our Signs; but they were too inflated with pride, and were a guilty people
10:76 And when the truth came to them from Us they said, "This is mere magic."
10:77 Moses said, "Speak you thus about the Truth when it comes to you? Is this magic? But magicians thrive not."
10:78 They said, "Have you come to turn us away from the faith in which we found our fathers, that there may be for you twain grandeur in the land? We will not believe you."
10:79 And Pharaoh said, "Bring me every expert sorcerer;"
10:80 And when the sorcerers came, Moses said to them, "Cast the spells you have to cast."
10:81 And when they had cast, Moses said, "What you have brought is certainly sorcery. Verily, Allah will make it vain; Verily, Allah upholds not the work of mischief makers."
10:82 But Allah verifies (or proves and establishes) the Truth by His Words, however much the guilty are averse
10:83 But none believed in Moses, save a section of his own people, through fear of Pharaoh and his chiefs, lest he should afflict them. Verily, Pharaoh was a tyrant in the land, and verily, he was wanton
10:84 And Moses said, "O my people! If you did believe in Allah, then on Him rely, if you have, indeed, surrendered (unto Him - become Muslims)."
10:85 They said, "In Allah do we put our trust. O our Lord! Make us not a cause of fitnat (trial, temptation, punishment, oppression, discord, conflict), for a people who oppress
10:86 But deliver us by Thy mercy from the people who disbelieve!"
10:87 And We inspired Moses and his brother thus, "Establish, you twain, houses for your people in Egypt; and make you your houses a qiblah (the centre of worship); and be you steadfast in prayer, and give Glad Tidings to those who believe."
10:88 Moses said, "O our Lord! Verily, Thou hast brought to Pharaoh and his chiefs ornaments and wealth in the life of this world; Our Lord! They lead men astray from Thy way thereby! Our Lord! Confound their wealth (make it loathsome or turn it into a so
10:89 He said, "Your prayer is answered; be upright then (follow the Straight Way), you two, and follow not the path of those who have no knowledge (the ignorant)."
10:90 And We brought the Children of Israel across the sea; and Pharaoh and his hosts pursued them with spite and hostility until when drowning overtook him, he exclaimed, "I believe that there is no Allah but He in whom the children of Israel believe, an
10:91 "What! Now! But a little while before were you in rebellion, and were of those who do evil
10:92 "But this day shall We save you in your body, that you may be a Sign to those who come after you; but verily, many of mankind are heedless of Our Signs!"
10:93 And We established the Children of Israel in a secure abode, and We provided them with good things; and they disagreed not until knowledge had come unto them. Verily, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that whereon th
10:94 And if you are in doubt of that which We have revealed unto you, ask those who read the Book before you; verily, the truth has come to you from your Lord. So be not you of those who doubt
10:95 And be not of those who reject the Signs of Allah, for then you will be of the losers
10:96 Verily, those against whom the word of your Lord has been pronounced will not believe
10:97 Even though there come to them every sign, until they see the grievous doom
10:98 If only there were a community that had believed and profited from its faith. But none did except the people of Jonah. When they believed We removed from them the Torment of Disgrace in this world, and We gave them provision for a while
10:99 But had your Lord willed, all who are in the earth would have believed together. Would you force men to become believers
10:100 It is not for any soul to believe save by the permission of Allah; He sets uncleanness on those who have no sense
10:101 Say, "Behold what is in the heavens and in the earth! But Signs and Warners avail not a people who do not believe."
10:102 What expect they but the like of the days of those who passed away before them? Say, "Wait you then! Verily, I, too, will wait with you."
10:103 Then will We save Our Messengers and those who believe, as is fitting to Us, in like manner as before
10:104 Say, "O mankind! If you are in doubt concerning my religion, (know that) I will not worship those you worship other than Allah; but I worship Allah, who takes you to Himself, and I have been commanded to be of the believers!"
10:105 And, set your purpose resolutely for religion as a "Hanif" (a man upright by nature); and be not of the idolaters
10:106 And call not besides Allah on what can neither profit you nor harm you; for if you do, verily, you are then of the wrong-doers (or unjust)."
10:107 And should Allah touch you with harm, there is none to remove it save He; and if He wish you well, there is none to repel His grace; He makes it fall on whom He will of His servants; for He is Forgiving and Merciful
10:108 Say, "O mankind! There has come to you the Truth from your Lord, and he who is guided by it, his guidance is only for his own soul; and he who errs, errs only against it; and I am not a warder over you."
10:109 Follow what is inspired in you, and be patient until Allah judges, for He is the best of judges
