to despair, lose courage, hinder, abandon hope.

42:28
وَهُوَ الَّذِي يُنَزِّلُ الْغَيْثَ مِنْ بَعْدِ مَا قَنَطُوا وَيَنشُرُ رَحْمَتَه ُُ وَهُوَ الْوَلِيُّ الْحَمِيدُ
Wa Huwa Al-Ladhī Yunazzilu Al-Ghaytha Min Ba`di Mā Qanaţū Wa Yanshuru Raĥmatahu Wa Huwa Al-Walīyu Al-Ĥamīdu
And He is the One who sends down the rain after they had despaired, and spreads His mercy. He is the Supporter, the Praiseworthy.

15:56
قَالَ وَمَنْ يَقْنَطُ مِنْ رَحْمَةِ رَبِّهِ~ِ إِلاَّ الضَّالُّونَ
Qāla Wa Man Yaqnaţu Min Raĥmati Rabbihi 'Illā AĐ-Đāllūna
He said: "And who would deny the mercy of his Lord except the misguided ones!"
30:36
وَإِذَا أَذَقْنَا النَّاسَ رَحْمَة ً فَرِحُوا بِهَا وَإِنْ تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَة ٌ بِمَا قَدَّمَتْ أَيْدِيهِمْ إِذَا هُمْ يَقْنَطُونَ
Wa 'Idhā 'Adhaqnā An-Nāsa Raĥmatan Fariĥū Bihā Wa 'In Tuşibhum Sayyi'atun Bimā Qaddamat 'Aydīhim 'Idhā Hum Yaqnaţūna
And if We grant the people a taste of mercy, they become happy with it, but if evil afflicts them for what they have done, they become in despair!
39:53
قُلْ يَاعِبَادِي الَّذِينَ أَسْرَفُوا عَلَى أَنْفُسِهِمْ لاَ تَقْنَطُوا مِنْ رَحْمَةِ اللَّهِ إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَغْفِرُ الذُّنُوبَ جَمِيعا ً إِنَّه ُُ هُوَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
Qul Yā `Ibādī Al-Ladhīna 'Asrafū `Alá 'Anfusihim Lā Taqnaţū Min Raĥmati Allāhi 'Inna Allāha Yaghfiru Adh-Dhunūba Jamī`āan 'Innahu Huwa Al-Ghafūru Ar-Raĥīmu
Say: O My servants who transgressed against themselves, do not despair of the mercy of God. ForGod forgives all sins. He is the Forgiver, the Merciful.

قَالُوا بَشَّرْنَاكَ بِالْحَقِّ فَلاَ تَكُنْ مِنَ الْقَانِطِينَ
Qālū Bashsharnāka Bil-Ĥaqqi Falā Takun Mina Al-Qāniţīna
They said: "We have brought you good news with the truth, so do not be of those in denial."

لاَ يَسْأَمُ الإِنْسَانُ مِنْ دُعَاءِ الْخَيْرِ وَإِنْ مَسَّهُ الشَّرُّ فَيَئُوس ٌ قَنُوط ٌ
Lā Yas'amu Al-'Insānu Min Du`ā'i Al-Khayri Wa 'In Massahu Ash-Sharru Faya'ūsun Qanūţun
Man does not tire in praying for good things. But if adversity touches him, he is disheartened, desperate!
