To guard/keep, keep safely/protect/take care of a person or thing, defend a person or thing, pay frequent attention to a person or thing, to mind or be regardful of one's things, have compassion or affection for a person, to undertake/superintend/manage one's affairs, retire to a distance, to leave and go against, take care of and preserve (the tie of kindred), draw towards oneself or compress and guard one's possession, to surround/encompass a thing, build a wall around a thing, have within one's compass or power and care a thing or affair, monopolize a thing, endeavour to induce a person to turn or incline, endeavour to turn a person by deceit or guile (namely in a matter that he desired of him and which he refused him), surround/encompass/environ/enclose/hemm in a person or thing, to encircle or beset the sides of a person or thing, to have something or someone in one's grasp or power, to destroy or cause destruction, beset a thing on every side (and leaving no escape), to take a thing entirely to oneself and debar others from it, to comprehend or know a thing altogether or in all its modes or circumstances, to know a thing extrinsically and intrisically, attain the utmost particular of a thing, have a comprehensive and complete knowledge of a thing, to pursue a course or thing by prudence or precaution or good judgement, to use precaution, take the sure course, to seek the most successful means, take the surest method.

2:81
بَلَى مَنْ كَسَبَ سَيِّئَة ً وَأَحَاطَتْ بِه ِِ خَطِيئَتُه ُُ فَأُوْلَائِكَ أَصْحَابُ النَّارِ هُمْ فِيهَا خَالِدُونَ
Balá Man Kasaba Sayyi'atan Wa 'Aĥāţat Bihi Khaţī'atuhu Fa'ūlā'ika 'Aşĥābu An-Nāri Hum Fīhā Khālidūna
Indeed, whoever gains a sin, and is surrounded by his mistakes; those are the people of the Fire, in it they will abide.
17:60
وَإِذْ قُلْنَا لَكَ إِنَّ رَبَّكَ أَحَاطَ بِالنَّاسِ وَمَا جَعَلْنَا الرُّؤْيَا الَّتِي أَرَيْنَاكَ إِلاَّ فِتْنَة ً لِلنَّاسِ وَالشَّجَرَةَ الْمَلْعُونَةَ فِي الْقُرْآنِ وَنُخَوِّفُهُمْ فَمَا يَزِيدُهُمْ إِلاَّ طُغْيَانا ً كَبِيرا ً
Wa 'Idh Qulnā Laka 'Inna Rabbaka 'Aĥāţa Bin-Nāsi Wa Mā Ja`alnā Ar-Ru'uyā Allatī 'Araynāka 'Illā Fitnatan Lilnnāsi Wa Ash-Shajarata Al-Mal`ūnata Fī Al-Qur'āni Wa Nukhawwifuhum Famā Yazīduhum 'Illā Ţughyānāan Kabīrāan
And when We said to you: "Your Lord has encompassed the people." And We did not make the vision that We showed you except as a test for the people, and the tree that was cursed in the Qur'an. And We are making them fearful, but it only increases their transgression.
18:29
وَقُلِ الْحَقُّ مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ فَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيُؤْمِنْ وَمَنْ شَاءَ فَلْيَكْفُرْ إِنَّا أَعْتَدْنَا لِلظَّالِمِينَ نَاراً أَحَاطَ بِهِمْ سُرَادِقُهَا وَإِنْ يَسْتَغِيثُوا يُغَاثُوا بِمَاء ٍ كَالْمُهْلِ يَشْوِي الْوُجُوه ََ بِئْسَ الشَّرَابُ وَسَاءَتْ مُرْتَفَقا ً
Wa Quli Al-Ĥaqqu Min Rabbikum Faman Shā'a Falyu'umin Wa Man Shā'a Falyakfur 'Innā 'A`tadnā Lilžžālimīna Nārāan 'Aĥāţa Bihim Surādiquhā Wa 'In Yastaghīthū Yughāthū Bimā'in Kālmuhli Yashwī Al-Wujūha Bi'sa Ash-Sharābu Wa Sā'at Murtafaqāan
And say: "The truth is from your Lord, so let whoever desires believe, and whoever desires reject." We have prepared for the wicked a Fire whose walls will be surrounding them. And if they cry out, they are given a water like boiling oil which burns their faces. What a dreadful drink and what a miserable place!
18:91
كَذَلِكَ وَقَدْ أَحَطْنَا بِمَا لَدَيْهِ خُبْرا ً
Kadhālika Wa Qad 'Aĥaţnā Bimā Ladayhi Khubrāan
So it was, and We knew ahead of time about what he intended.
27:22
فَمَكَثَ غَيْرَ بَعِيد ٍ فَقَالَ أَحَطتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِه ِِ وَجِئْتُكَ مِنْ سَبَإ ٍ بِنَبَإ ٍ يَقِين ٍ
Famakatha Ghayra Ba`īdin Faqāla 'Aĥaţtu Bimā Lam Tuĥiţ Bihi Wa Ji'tuka Min Saba'iin Binaba'iin Yaqīnin
But the hoopoe did not stay away long, then he said: "I have seen what you do not know, and I have come to you from Sheba with news which is certain."
48:21
وَأُخْرَى لَمْ تَقْدِرُوا عَلَيْهَا قَدْ أَحَاطَ اللَّهُ بِهَا وَكَانَ اللَّهُ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء ٍ قَدِيرا ً
Wa 'Ukhrá Lam Taqdirū `Alayhā Qad 'Aĥāţa Allāhu Bihā Wa Kāna Allāhu `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrāan
And the other group which you could not vanquish, God took care of them. And God was capable of all things.
65:12
اللَّهُ الَّذِي خَلَقَ سَبْعَ سَمَاوَات ٍ وَمِنَ الأَرْضِ مِثْلَهُنَّ يَتَنَزَّلُ الأَمْرُ بَيْنَهُنَّ لِتَعْلَمُوا أَنَّ اللَّهَ عَلَى كُلِّ شَيْء ٍ قَدِير ٌ وَأَنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ أَحَاطَ بِكُلِّ شَيْءٍ عِلْما ً
Allāhu Al-Ladhī Khalaqa Sab`a Samāwātin Wa Mina Al-'ArĐi Mithlahunna Yatanazzalu Al-'Amru Baynahunna Lita`lamū 'Anna Allāha `Alá Kulli Shay'in Qadīrun Wa 'Anna Allāha Qad 'Aĥāţa Bikulli Shay'in `Ilmāan
God who has created seven heavens and the same number of earths; the command is sent down between them; that you may know that Godis capable of all things, and that God has encompassed all things with His knowledge.
72:28
لِيَعْلَمَ أَنْ قَدْ أَبْلَغُوا رِسَالاَتِ رَبِّهِمْ وَأَحَاطَ بِمَا لَدَيْهِمْ وَأَحْصَى كُلَّ شَيْءٍ عَدَدا ً
Liya`lama 'An Qad 'Ablaghū Risālāti Rabbihim Wa 'Aĥāţa Bimā Ladayhim Wa 'Aĥşá Kulla Shay'in `Adadāan
So that He knows that they have delivered the messages of their Lord, and He surrounds all that is with them, and He has counted the number of all things.

2:255
اللَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ لاَ تَأْخُذُه ُُ سِنَة ٌ وَلاَ نَوْم ٌ لَه ُُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ مَنْ ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِنْدَهُ~ُ إِلاَّ بِإِذْنِه ِِ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلاَ يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْء ٍ مِنْ عِلْمِهِ~ِ إِلاَّ بِمَا شَاءَ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالأَرْضَ وَلاَ يَئُودُه ُُ حِفْظُهُمَا وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ
Allāhu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Huwa Al-Ĥayyu Al-Qayyūmu, Lā Ta'khudhuhu Sinatun Wa Lā Nawmun, Lahu Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'ArĐi, Man Dhā Al-Ladhī Yashfa`u `Indahu 'Illā Bi'idhnihi, Ya`lamu Mā Bayna 'Aydīhim Wa Mā Khalfahum, Wa Lā Yuĥīţūna Bishay'in Min `Ilmihi 'Illā Bimā Shā'a, Wasi`a Kursīyuhu As-Samāwāti Wa Al-'ArĐa, Wa Lā Ya'ūduhu Ĥifžuhumā, Wa Huwa Al-`Alīyu Al-`Ažīmu
God, there is no god except He, the Living, the Sustainer. No slumber or sleep overtakes Him; to Him belongs all that is in the heavens and the earth. Who will intercede with Him except with His permission? He knows their present and their future, and they do not have any of His knowledge except for what He wishes. His Throne encompasses all of the heavens and the earth and it is easy for Him to preserve them. He is the Most High, the Great.
10:39
بَلْ كَذَّبُوا بِمَا لَمْ يُحِيطُوا بِعِلْمِه ِِ وَلَمَّا يَأْتِهِمْ تَأْوِيلُه ُُ كَذَلِكَ كَذَّبَ الَّذِينَ مِنْ قَبْلِهِمْ فَانْظُرْ كَيْفَ كَانَ عَاقِبَةُ الظَّالِمِينَ
Bal Kadhdhabū Bimā Lam Yuĥīţū Bi`ilmihi Wa Lammā Ya'tihim Ta'wīluhu Kadhālika Kadhdhaba Al-Ladhīna Min Qablihim Fānžur Kayfa Kāna `Āqibatu Až-žālimīna
No, they have lied about that which they had no knowledge, nor has its explanation come to them. It is also how those before them denied, so see how was the retribution of the wicked!
18:68
وَكَيْفَ تَصْبِرُ عَلَى مَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِه ِِ خُبْرا ً
Wa Kayfa Taşbiru `Alá Mā Lam Tuĥiţ Bihi Khubrāan
"And how can you be patient about that which you have not been given any news?"
20:110
يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ وَلاَ يُحِيطُونَ بِه ِِ عِلْما ً
Ya`lamu Mā Bayna 'Aydīhim Wa Mā Khalfahum Wa Lā Yuĥīţūna Bihi `Ilmāan
He knows their present and their future, and they do not have any of His knowledge.
27:22
فَمَكَثَ غَيْرَ بَعِيد ٍ فَقَالَ أَحَطتُ بِمَا لَمْ تُحِطْ بِه ِِ وَجِئْتُكَ مِنْ سَبَإ ٍ بِنَبَإ ٍ يَقِين ٍ
Famakatha Ghayra Ba`īdin Faqāla 'Aĥaţtu Bimā Lam Tuĥiţ Bihi Wa Ji'tuka Min Saba'iin Binaba'iin Yaqīnin
But the hoopoe did not stay away long, then he said: "I have seen what you do not know, and I have come to you from Sheba with news which is certain."
27:84
حَتَّى إِذَا جَاءُوا قَالَ أَكَذَّبْتُمْ بِآيَاتِي وَلَمْ تُحِيطُوا بِهَا عِلْماً أَمَّاذَا كُنتُمْ تَعْمَلُونَ
Ĥattá 'Idhā Jā'ū Qāla 'Akadhdhabtum Bi'āyātī Wa Lam Tuĥīţū Bihā `Ilmāan 'Ammādhā Kuntum Ta`malūna
Then, when they have come, He will say: "Have you denied My revelations while you had no explicit knowledge of them? What were you doing?"

10:22
هُوَ الَّذِي يُسَيِّرُكُمْ فِي الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ حَتَّى إِذَا كُنْتُمْ فِي الْفُلْكِ وَجَرَيْنَ بِهِمْ بِرِيح ٍ طَيِّبَة ٍ وَفَرِحُوا بِهَا جَاءَتْهَا رِيحٌ عَاصِف ٌ وَجَاءَهُمُ الْمَوْجُ مِنْ كُلِّ مَكَان ٍ وَظَنُّوا أَنَّهُمْ أُحِيطَ بِهِمْ دَعَوْا اللَّهَ مُخْلِصِينَ لَهُ الدِّينَ لَئِنْ أَنْجَيْتَنَا مِنْ هَذِه ِِ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ
Huwa Al-Ladhī Yusayyirukum Fī Al-Barri Wa Al-Baĥri Ĥattá 'Idhā Kuntum Fī Al-Fulki Wa Jarayna Bihim Birīĥin Ţayyibatin Wa Fariĥū Bihā Jā'at/hā Rīĥun `Āşifun Wa Jā'ahumu Al-Mawju Min Kulli Makānin Wa žannū 'Annahum 'Uĥīţa Bihim Da`aw Allāha Mukhlişīna Lahu Ad-Dīna La'in 'Anjaytanā Min Hadhihi Lanakūnanna Mina Ash-Shākirīna
He is the One who carries you on land and on the sea. And when you are on the ships and We drive them with a good wind which they rejoice with, a strong gust comes to them and the waves come to them from all sides, and they think that they are finished, they implore God with loyalty and devotion to His system: "If You save us from this, we will be of the thankful."
18:42
وَأُحِيطَ بِثَمَرِه ِِ فَأَصْبَحَ يُقَلِّبُ كَفَّيْهِ عَلَى مَا أَنفَقَ فِيهَا وَهِيَ خَاوِيَةٌ عَلَى عُرُوشِهَا وَيَقُولُ يَالَيْتَنِي لَمْ أُشْرِكْ بِرَبِّي أَحَدا ً
Wa 'Uĥīţa Bithamarihi Fa'aşbaĥa Yuqallibu Kaffayhi `Alá Mā 'Anfaqa Fīhā Wa Hiya Khāwiyatun `Alá `Urūshihā Wa Yaqūlu Yā Laytanī Lam 'Ushrik Birabbī 'Aĥadāan
So his fruits were ruined, and he began turning his hands at that which he had spent on it while it remained destroyed upon its branches. And he said: "I wish I had not set up any partner with my Lord!"

12:66
قَالَ لَنْ أُرْسِلَه ُُ مَعَكُمْ حَتَّى تُؤْتُونِ مَوْثِقا ً مِنَ اللَّهِ لَتَأْتُنَنِي بِهِ~ِ إِلاَّ أَنْ يُحَاطَ بِكُمْ فَلَمَّا آتَوْهُ مَوْثِقَهُمْ قَالَ اللَّهُ عَلَى مَا نَقُولُ وَكِيل ٌ
Qāla Lan 'Ursilahu Ma`akum Ĥattá Tu'utūni Mawthiqāan Mina Allāhi Lata'tunanī Bihi 'Illā 'An Yuĥāţa Bikum Falammā 'Ātawhu Mawthiqahum Qāla Allāhu `Alá Mā Naqūlu Wa Kīlun
He said: "I will not send him with you until you come to me with a covenant to God that you will bring him back unless you are completely overtaken." So when they brought him their covenant, he said: "God is placed in trust over what we say."

2:19
أَوْ كَصَيِّب ٍ مِنَ السَّمَاءِ فِيه ِِ ظُلُمَات ٌ وَرَعْد ٌ وَبَرْق ٌ يَجْعَلُونَ أَصَابِعَهُمْ فِي آذَانِهِمْ مِنَ الصَّوَاعِقِ حَذَرَ الْمَوْتِ وَاللَّهُ مُحِيط ٌ بِالْكَافِرِينَ
'Aw Kaşayyibin Mina As-Samā'i Fīhi žulumātun Wa Ra`dun Wa Barqun Yaj`alūna 'Aşābi`ahum Fī 'Ādhānihim Mina Aş-Şawā`iqi Ĥadhara Al-Mawti Wa Allāhu Muĥīţun Bil-Kāfirīna
Or like a cloud from the sky, in it is darkness and thunder and lightning. They place their fingers in their ears from the lightning strikes out of fear of death; and God is aware of the rejecters.
3:120
إِنْ تَمْسَسْكُمْ حَسَنَة ٌ تَسُؤْهُمْ وَإِنْ تُصِبْكُمْ سَيِّئَة ٌ يَفْرَحُوا بِهَا وَإِنْ تَصْبِرُوا وَتَتَّقُوا لاَ يَضُرُّكُمْ كَيْدُهُمْ شَيْئا ً إِنَّ اللَّهَ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيط ٌ
'In Tamsaskum Ĥasanatun Tasu'uhum Wa 'In Tuşibkum Sayyi'atun Yafraĥū Bihā Wa 'In Taşbirū Wa Tattaqū Lā YaĐurrukum Kayduhum Shay'āan 'Inna Allāha Bimā Ya`malūna Muĥīţun
If any good befalls you it disturbs them, and if any bad befalls you they rejoice with it. And if you are patient and righteous their planning will not harm you at all. God is Encompassing all they do.
4:108
يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ النَّاسِ وَلاَ يَسْتَخْفُونَ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَهُوَ مَعَهُمْ إِذْ يُبَيِّتُونَ مَا لاَ يَرْضَى مِنَ الْقَوْلِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيطا ً
Yastakhfūna Mina An-Nāsi Wa Lā Yastakhfūna Mina Allāhi Wa Huwa Ma`ahum 'Idh Yubayyitūna Mā Lā YarĐá Mina Al-Qawli Wa Kāna Allāhu Bimā Ya`malūna Muĥīţāan
They may conceal this from the people, but they do not conceal it from God, and He was with them when they schemed what He does not approve of to be said. God is Encompassing what they do.
4:126
وَلِلَّهِ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الأَرْضِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ بِكُلِّ شَيْء ٍ مُحِيطا ً
Wa Lillahi Mā Fī As-Samāwāti Wa Mā Fī Al-'ArĐi Wa Kāna Allāhu Bikulli Shay'in Muĥīţāan
And to God is what is in the heavens and the earth; and God is Encompassing all things.
8:47
وَلاَ تَكُونُوا كَالَّذِينَ خَرَجُوا مِنْ دِيَارِهِمْ بَطَرا ً وَرِئَاءَ النَّاسِ وَيَصُدُّونَ عَنْ سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ وَاللَّهُ بِمَا يَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيط ٌ
Wa Lā Takūnū Kālladhīna Kharajū Min Diyārihim Baţarāan Wa Ri'ā'a An-Nāsi Wa Yaşuddūna `An Sabīli Allāhi Wa Allāhu Bimā Ya`malūna Muĥīţun
And do not be like those who came out from their homes to boast and to be seen by the people, and they repel others from the path of God; and God is aware of what they do.
9:49
وَمِنْهُمْ مَنْ يَقُولُ ائْذَنْ لِي وَلاَ تَفْتِنِّي أَلاَ فِي الْفِتْنَةِ سَقَطُوا وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَة ٌ بِالْكَافِرِينَ
Wa Minhum Man Yaqūlu A'dhan Lī Wa Lā Taftinnī 'Alā Fī Al-Fitnati Saqaţū Wa 'Inna Jahannama Lamuĥīţatun Bil-Kāfirīna
And from them are those who say: "Grant me leave, and do not test me." But it is in the test that they have indeed fallen, and Hell is surrounding the rejecters.
11:84
وَإِلَى مَدْيَنَ أَخَاهُمْ شُعَيْبا ً قَالَ يَاقَوْمِ اعْبُدُوا اللَّهَ مَا لَكُمْ مِنْ إِلَه ٍٍ غَيْرُه ُُ وَلاَ تَنقُصُوا الْمِكْيَالَ وَالْمِيزَانَ إِنِّي أَرَاكُمْ بِخَيْر ٍ وَإِنِّي أَخَافُ عَلَيْكُمْ عَذَابَ يَوْم ٍ مُحِيط ٍ
Wa 'Ilá Madyana 'Akhāhum Shu`aybāan Qāla Yā Qawmi A`budū Allāha Mā Lakum Min 'Ilahin Ghayruhu Wa Lā Tanquşū Al-Mikyā La Wa Al-Mīzāna 'Innī 'Arākum Bikhayrin Wa 'Innī 'Akhāfu `Alaykum `Adhāba Yawmin Muĥīţin
And to Midyan was their brother Shu'ayb, he said: "My people, serve God, you have no god besides Him, and do not give short in the measure and the weight. I see you in prosperity, and I fear for you the retribution of a day that is surrounding."
11:92
قَالَ يَا قَوْمِ أَرَهْطِي أَعَزُّ عَلَيْكُمْ مِنَ اللَّهِ وَاتَّخَذْتُمُوه ُُ وَرَاءَكُمْ ظِهْرِيّا ً إِنَّ رَبِّي بِمَا تَعْمَلُونَ مُحِيط ٌ
Qāla Yā Qawmi 'Arahţī 'A`azzu `Alaykum Mina Allāhi Wa Attakhadhtumūhu Warā'akum žihrīyāan 'Inna Rabbī Bimā Ta`malūna Muĥīţun
He said: "My people, is who my family is more important to you than God, while you have cast Him away behind your backs? My Lord is encompassing what you do."
29:54
يَسْتَعْجِلُونَكَ بِالْعَذَابِ وَإِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ لَمُحِيطَة ٌ بِالْكَافِرِينَ
Yasta`jilūnaka Bil-`Adhābi Wa 'Inna Jahannama Lamuĥīţatun Bil-Kāfirīna
They hasten you for the retribution; while Hell surrounds the rejecters.
41:54
أَلاَ إِنَّهُمْ فِي مِرْيَة ٍ مِنْ لِقَاءِ رَبِّهِمْ أَلاَ إِنَّه ُُ بِكُلِّ شَيْء ٍ مُحِيط ٌ
'Alā 'Innahum Fī Miryatin Min Liqā'i Rabbihim 'Alā 'Innahu Bikulli Shay'in Muĥīţun
Indeed, they are in doubt about meeting their Lord; but He is encompassing all things.
85:20
وَاللَّهُ مِنْ وَرَائِهِمْ مُحِيط ٌ
Wa Allāhu Min Warā'ihim Muĥīţun
And God after them is encompassing.
