cover or conceal a thing, to clad a thing, spread its darkness, the overflowing of something; power of resistance or defence; ignorance, put a veil.

الَّذِينَ كَانَتْ أَعْيُنُهُمْ فِي غِطَاءٍ عَنْ ذِكْرِي وَكَانُوا لاَ يَسْتَطِيعُونَ سَمْعا ً
Al-Ladhīna Kānat 'A`yunuhum Fī Ghiţā'in `An Dhikrī Wa Kānū Lā Yastaţī`ūna Sam`āan
Those whose eyes were covered against My remembrance, and they were unable to hear.
50:22
لَقَدْ كُنْتَ فِي غَفْلَة ٍ مِنْ هَذَا فَكَشَفْنَا عَنْكَ غِطَاءَكَ فَبَصَرُكَ الْيَوْمَ حَدِيد ٌ
Laqad Kunta Fī Ghaflatin Min Hādhā Fakashafnā `Anka Ghiţā'aka Fabaşaruka Al-Yawma Ĥadīdun
You were heedless of this, so now We have removed your veil, and your sight today is iron!
