88:6
لَيْسَ لَهُمْ طَعَام ٌ إِلاَّ مِنْ ضَرِيع ٍ
Laysa Lahum Ţa`āmun 'Illā Min Đarī`in
They will have no food except from a thorny plant.
taDarra
vb. (V) perf. act.
6:43
فَلَوْلاَ إِذْ جَاءَهُمْ بَأْسُنَا تَضَرَّعُوا وَلَكِنْ قَسَتْ قُلُوبُهُمْ وَزَيَّنَ لَهُمُ الشَّيْطَانُ مَا كَانُوا يَعْمَلُون
Falawlā 'Idh Jā'ahum Ba'sunā TaĐarra`ū Wa Lakin Qasat Qulūbuhum Wa Zayyana Lahumu Ash-Shayţānu Mā Kānū Ya`malūn
If only they had implored when Our punishment came to them; but their hearts hardened, and the devil adorned for them what they used to do.
impf. act.
6:42
وَلَقَدْ أَرْسَلْنَا إِلَى أُمَم ٍ مِنْ قَبْلِكَ فَأَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
Wa Laqad 'Arsalnā 'Ilá 'Umamin Min Qablika Fa'akhadhnāhum Bil-Ba'sā'i Wa AĐ-Đarrā'i La`allahum YataĐarra`ūna
And We have sent others to nations before you. We then took them with adversity and hardship, perhaps they would implore.
7:94
وَمَا أَرْسَلْنَا فِي قَرْيَة ٍ مِنْ نَبِيّ ٍ إِلاَّ أَخَذْنَا أَهْلَهَا بِالْبَأْسَاءِ وَالضَّرَّاءِ لَعَلَّهُمْ يَضَّرَّعُونَ
Wa Mā 'Arsalnā Fī Qaryatin Min Nabīyin 'Illā 'Akhadhnā 'Ahlahā Bil-Ba'sā'i Wa AĐ-Đarrā'i La`allahum YaĐĐarra`ūna
And We do not send a prophet to any town, except afterwards We afflict its people with hardship and adversity that they may implore.
23:76
وَلَقَدْ أَخَذْنَاهُمْ بِالْعَذَابِ فَمَا اسْتَكَانُوا لِرَبِّهِمْ وَمَا يَتَضَرَّعُونَ
Wa Laqad 'Akhadhnāhum Bil-`Adhābi Famā Astakānū Lirabbihim Wa Mā YataĐarra`ūna
And when We seized them with the punishment, they did not humble themselves to their Lord nor did they invoke Him.

6:63
قُلْ مَنْ يُنَجِّيكُمْ مِنْ ظُلُمَاتِ الْبَرِّ وَالْبَحْرِ تَدْعُونَه ُُ تَضَرُّعا ً وَخُفْيَة ً لَئِنْ أَنجَانَا مِنْ هَذِه ِِ لَنَكُونَنَّ مِنَ الشَّاكِرِينَ
Qul Man Yunajjīkum Min žulumāti Al-Barri Wa Al-Baĥri Tad`ūnahu TaĐarru`āan Wa Khufyatan La'in 'Anjānā Min Hadhihi Lanakūnanna Mina Ash-Shākirīna
Say: "Who rescues you from the darkness of the land and the sea?" You call on Him in humility and in secret: "If You save us from this, we will be of the thankful!"
7:55
ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعا ً وَخُفْيَة ً إِنَّهُ لاَ يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ
Ad`ū Rabbakum TaĐarru`āan Wa Khufyatan 'Innahu Lā Yuĥibbu Al-Mu`tadīna
Call on your Lord in humility and in secret. He does not like the aggressors.
7:205
وَاذْكُرْ رَبَّكَ فِي نَفْسِكَ تَضَرُّعا ً وَخِيفَة ً وَدُونَ الْجَهْرِ مِنَ الْقَوْلِ بِالْغُدُوِّ وَالآصَالِ وَلاَ تَكُنْ مِنَ الْغَافِلِينَ
Wa Adhkur Rabbaka Fī Nafsika TaĐarru`āan Wa Khīfatan Wa Dūna Al-Jahri Mina Al-Qawli Bil-Ghudūwi Wa Al-'Āşāli Wa Lā Takun Mina Al-Ghāfilīna
And remember your Lord within yourself, in humility and in reverence; and without loudness in words, during the morning and the evening. And do not be of the careless ones.
