78:1  About what do they ask each other?
78:2  About the momentous disclosure,
78:3  the one in which they hold contrarian views!
78:4  On the contrary, they shall soon know
78:5  Then, not any [views] at all. They shall know.
78:6  Have WE not rendered the earth as a cradle?
78:7  And the mountains as anchors?
78:8  And WE have created you in complementary pairs
78:9  And WE made your sleep a time of rest
78:10  And WE rendered the night as a cloak
78:11  And WE made the day a bearer of livelihood
78:12  And WE raised above you the unyielding seven
78:13  And WE placed a brightly burning lamp
78:14  And WE sent down profusely streaming water from the fusing clouds
78:15  So, WE may thereby bring forth grain and a profusion of plants
78:16  And lushly dense gardens
78:17  Of certain, the Day of Sorting was ever set in time—
78:18  a day the forms are blown into— for you to come forth in droves
78:19  And the heavens were opened— they were portals
78:20  And the mountains were moved away— they were a mirage.
78:21  Of certain, Jahannam was lying in wait
78:22  for the unrestrained usurpers, a homecoming
78:23  to tarry therein for long spans.
78:24  They will taste therein neither any coolness nor any drink,
78:25  except a fluid bereft of mercy [amīm], and a fluid of gloom [ghassāq]
78:26  A fitting recompense.
78:27  Surely, they were not expecting to be called to account
78:28  And they had given OUR signs the lie— lie after lie
78:29  And everything, WE had committed [with every detail] to a record
78:30  Hence, taste [your own doings]. So [now when it is too late to repent] WE will not give you more of anything except a punishment.
78:31  Verily, for the God-conscious is the fruition of success:
78:32  Orchards and vineyards
78:33  and splendid companions, perfectly matched
78:34  and a full cup.
78:35  They are not to hear therein any vain chatter or false talk
78:36  A recompense from your Rabb— a fully reckoned grant.
78:37  Rabb of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them— Al Raḥmān! They will not possess the power from HIM to speak,
78:38  The day when the Spirit and the angels stand arrayed. None will speak, or be spoken to, except one given leave by Al Raḥmān— and he had spoken rightly.
78:39  That is the Day, Real and True. So, whosoever had willed, had taken a homecoming unto his Rabb.
78:40  Surely, WE have warned you of an imminent punishment on a day when every individual will see what his two hands sent ahead, and the disbeliever will say, “O I wish I were dust.”
