74:1  O you the one under covers
74:2  Arise and then warn—
74:3  And your Rabb— deem ever greater
74:4  Your clothing [covers a purified heart]— so purify
74:5  The profane [is not of you]— shun.
74:6  And do no favors seeking worldly gains
74:7  And for your Rabb— persevere.
74:8  Then when in the Hollow a sound is struck
74:9  — that day will be a difficult day
74:10  upon the disbelievers— anything but easy.
74:11  Leave ME and he whom I created singly
74:12  And I have placed for him widespread wealth,
74:13  And children present in view,
74:14  And I have paved the way for him, with smoothness.
74:15  Further to that, he craves that I add more!
74:16  No more! Of certain, he was unbending to OUR signs
74:17  Soon I will burden him with a steep course
74:18  Surely, he did think while he evaluated—
74:19  He was killed [i.e., dead of heart] by how he evaluated
74:20  Then, he was killed [of soul] by how he evaluated
74:21  Then [when he heard the message] he looked,
74:22  Then he frowned and scowled
74:23  Then he turned his back and waxed proud—
74:24  And so, he said: “This here is nothing except a magic which has been passed down,
74:25  This here is nothing but the word of a mortal.”
74:26  Soon I shall put him to fuel Saqar
74:27  What defines for you what is Saqar
74:28  It leaves no residue, nor leaves to be—
74:29  A searer for the mortal being.
74:30  Over it are nineteen
74:31  And WE have made none but the angels, wardens of the fire, and WE have set their number only to be a confounding hurdle for the ones who have disbelieved; that the ones who were given the Scripture be convinced and the ones who have believed grow in faith, and that the ones given the Scripture and the believers do not doubt; and that the ones in whose hearts is a disease and the disbelievers ask, “What does Allah intend with this example?” Thus does Allah set astray whosoever HE wills, and HE guides whosoever HE wills. And none knows the agencies of your Rabb except HIM. And this is nothing but a reminder for all mortals.
74:32  No! By the moon
74:33  And the night when it retreats
74:34  And the morning when it exposes
74:35  Indeed, it [i.e., Saqar] is one the mightiest [punishments]
74:36  A warning for the mortal being
74:37  For whoever of you wills that he advances or stalls.
74:38  Every soul is held in pledge to what it has earned
74:39  Except the beneficiaries of the consecrated right—
74:40  in gardens, inquiring of each other
74:41  about the flouters of divine guidance.
74:42  [Who were asked], “What slid you in Saqar?”
74:43  They said, “We were not of the ones who devoted time to Prayers.
74:44  And we did not feed the needy
74:45  And we chatted vainly with the chatterers
74:46  And we denied the truth about the Day of Surrender and Reckoning
74:47  until the certainty was upon us.”
74:48  So now [in the Hereafter], not is any intercession of the intercessors to benefit them.
74:49  So then [here and now on earth], what is with them that they turn away from the Reminder?
74:50  As if they were donkeys, bolting away with fright
74:51  fleeing from a lion!
74:52  Nay! Every person among them desires that he be given unfurled scrolls.
74:53  Never is that to be! Nay, they do not fear the Hereafter.
74:54  Certainly not to be! Surely, there is a reminder
74:55  So, whoever wills may bear it in mind.
74:56  And not can they bear in mind except if Allah wills. HE is the fount of consciousness and the fount of forgiveness.
