72:1  Say, “It has been revealed to me that a band of the Jinn listened in, and said thereafter, ‘We did hear a wonderous recital
72:2  It guides to sound judgment. So, we have believed in it, and we will never associate anyone as a partner with our Rabb.
72:3  And [it guides] that exalted is our Rabb’s majesty. HE has taken neither a consort nor a son.
72:4  And that it was ever the foolish amongst us speaking blatant falsehood against Allah.
72:5  And that we had [foolishly] assumed that humans and Jinn would never speak a lie against Allah.
72:6  And it was that individuals among humans did seek refuge with individuals amongst the Jinn. Thereby, they made them more stifled [of intellect]—
72:7  And they had assumed, as you all had assumed, that Allah will never raise anyone.
72:8  And [we also foolishly assumed] that we had touched the Heavens. But [instead], we found [the sky] filled with an intense shielding force and a flame.
72:9  And [we also assumed] that we were to lounge at some of its safe places for audience. [We are not to pierce the hidden], so whosoever seeks to listen, now [he should know] that he will find a ready and vigilant flame for him.
72:10  And [it guides us] that we cannot ascertain whether ill is intended with anyone on the land, or whether it is rectitude that their Rabb has intended for them.
72:11  And that of us are the righteous and of us are short of that. Ever are we in separate lanes.
72:12  And we have concluded that we can never thwart Allah on the earth and never elude HIM by fleeing.
72:13  And as soon as we had heard the Guidance, we believed in it. For he who believes in his Rabb— he will not fear a shortfall, nor a stifling [of the intellect].
72:14  And among us are the ones who have submitted to God [i.e., are Muslims] and among us are the ones who flout justice. As for those who have submitted themselves to God— they have opted for rectitude.
72:15  And as for the ones who flout justice— they ever are kindling for Jahannam.’”
72:16  And [indeed]: if they [i.e., the disbelievers] had been steadfast on the path, WE would have indeed watered them with downpouring water,
72:17  to test them through it. And whosoever turns away from the remembrance of his Rabb, HE will make him pass through a mounting chastisement.
72:18  And [indeed]: the houses of worship belong to Allah. So, do not invoke anyone alongside Allah.
72:19  And [indeed it was so] that when the servant of Allah stood up to invoke HIM in prayer, they [i.e., Jinn] almost glued together around him.
72:20  Say, “I invoke only MY Rabb, and I do not associate anyone with HIM.”
72:21  Say, “I own for you neither a harm, nor an act of rectitude.”
72:22  Say, “No one can shield me from Allah, and never shall I find apart from HIM a recourse to refuge.
72:23  [I am not any different from another mortal] except by a conveyance from Allah and HIS messages. And whosoever disobeys Allah and HIS messenger— for him, assuredly, is Jahannam— abiders therein forever.”
72:24  [They are allowed to disobey] until when they get to see what they are promised— then they shall find out who is weaker helper wise, and more meagre, count wise.
72:25  Say, “I cannot ascertain whether that which you have been forewarned of is imminent or whether my Rabb is to appoint a distant time.
72:26  Knower of the unseeable Reality— HE does not make HIS unseeable Reality evident upon anyone.
72:27  Except whom HE approves of, from amongst the messengers. And then indeed, HE embeds vigilant guards [to be] present with him and beyond him,
72:28  That HE may make evident that they did indeed convey the messages of their Rabb. HE has circumscribed what is with them and HE has tallied everything by number.
