6:1
All praise belongs to Allah
WHO created the Heavens and the earth and made the [layers of] darkness and the light. Yet, those who disbelieve, equate others with their
Rabb.
6:2
HE it is
WHO created you from clay and then decreed a term. And a defined term is with
HIM. Yet you are skeptical.
6:3
HE is Allah, throughout the heavens and throughout the earth.
HE knows your secrets and your disclosures, and
HE knows what you earn.
6:4
And not a sign from the signs of their
Rabb comes to them,
except they turn away from it dismissively.
6:5
They have refuted the truth when it has come to them. So, the facts of what they were mocking will soon reach them.
6:6
Do they not see how many a generation before them
WE have destroyed?
WE had established them firmly in the land, in a manner
WE did not establish you.
WE sent down profusely from the sky for them, and
WE made rivers flow in subservience to them. Thereafter,
WE destroyed them for their trespasses, and
WE brought into being another generation to succeed them.
6:7
If
WE had sent down upon
you, writing on a parchment— so they could have touched and felt it with their hands— those who disbelieve now would have very predictably said, “This is just plain and simple sorcery.”
6:8
They have said, “Why has an angel not been sent down over him?” If
WE were to send an angel, the matter would be [conclusively] settled. Then they would be given no respite.
6:9
If
WE had made him to be an angel,
WE would have still rendered him as a man,
and WE would have clothed them in what they clothe themselves in.
6:10
And of certain, Messengers before
you were [also] belittled; but those of them who scoffed were overwhelmed by the very things they sought to belittle.
6:11
Say, “Travel the earth to further see how the end was of truth-beliers.”
6:12
Say, “To whom belongs all that which is in the heavens and earth?” Say, “To Allah.
HE has timelessly attributed mercy to
HIS SELF.
HE shall, without exception, bring all of you to the Day of Resurrection— no doubt in that. Those who have lost their souls [pursuing the false] —they will not believe.
6:13
To
HIM belongs whatever comes home by night, and by day.
HE is all-hearing, all-seeing.
6:14
Say, “Should I take for my protector and ally, other than Allah? Originator of the heavens and earth!
HE is
WHO feeds, and not is
HE fed!” Say, “I am commanded that I be the first who has surrendered [unto HIM], and [commanded] ‘be not ever of the polytheists.’”
6:15
Say, “I fear the punishment of a transcendent day, if I disobey my
Rabb.”
6:16
Whoever is routed away from it
that day— [that would be because]
HE bestowed mercy on him, and plain attainment, such as that.
6:17
If Allah brushes you with a hardship, there is not any remover for it except
HIM, and [so too] if
HE brushes you with good fortune. For
HE is in complete control over all things and their measure.
6:18
HE is the One holding the absolutely irresistible sway over
HIS creatures. And
HE is all-wise, all-aware.
6:19
Say, “Which entity is greatest in testimony?” Say, “Allah is a witness between me and you. And this Quran has been revealed unto me, so I may warn you with it and whoever it has reached. Can you truly testify that alongside Allah there are other gods?” Say, “I do not testify.” Say, “
HE is the sole God, and I truly am forever liberated from what you associate as partners [with
HIM].”
6:20
The ones to whom
WE gave the timeless Book, have an innate recognition of it [i.e., the Quran] like their innate recognition of their sons. The ones who have lost their souls [pursuing the false]—they will not believe.
6:21
And who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah, or repudiates
HIS messages? The unjust shall not succeed.
6:22
And on a day,
WE will assemble them together. Then
WE will say to those who worshipped other than the one God, “Where are those other deities of yours – the ones you were claiming?”
6:23
Then their fixation was nothing, but their saying, “By Allah, our
Rabb, we were not worshippers of other gods.”
6:24
Behold how they lied against their souls and whatever they were inventing had forsaken them.
6:25
Among them are those who do listen to
you, whereas
WE have placed sheaths over their hearts lest they grasp the import, and in their ears, a deafness. Even if they saw every sign, they will not believe through it. Eventually when they come to
you to challenge
you, those who have disbelieved say, “This here is nothing, but fables of the earlier peoples.”
6:26
And they forbid others from it, and they maintain a distance away from it. They do not wipe out anything except themselves, while they perceive not.
6:27
If you were to see them, when they are made to stand before the fire— they will then have said, “Ah! Would that we were returned and not be in denial of the signs of our
Rabb and be of the believers.”
6:28
Nay! Fully apparent to them was what they were concealing heretofore. If they were sent back, they would most certainly relapse into what was forbidden to them. They are liars for sure.
6:29
And they had said, “Nothing is there except our life of the world, and we are not meant to be raised up again [to face our worldly deeds].
6:30
If you were to see when they are stationed before their
Rabb:
HE asked, “Is this not by the Truth?” They said, “Yes, by our
Rabb, it is true.”
HE said, “So partake the punishment because you were rejecting the truth.”
6:31
They who deny their meeting with Allah have already lost. [They will be in denial] until when the Hour suddenly comes upon them. They will say, “Ah! Our regrets over what we neglected of it.” And they will be carrying their burdens on their backs. Unquestionably, wretched is what they carry.
6:32
Earthly life is only a contest and a passing interlude. And indeed, the home of the Hereafter is better for those who are conscious of God. Will you then not apply reason?
6:33
WE do know that what they say truly grieves
you. Yet, know that it is not
you they are refuting. On the contrary the wrongdoers repudiate the very messages of Allah.
6:34
And most certainly, messengers before
you were given the lie; they persevered against whatever lies and persecution they were made to face, until
OUR help came to them. There is absolutely none to alter the pronouncements of Allah. And some account of the messengers has already come to
you.
6:35
And if their shunning has been hard on
you, [would
you then]—if
you had the capacity— seek a tunnel in the earth, or a ladder into the sky, so to bring a sign for them? If Allah had so willed,
HE would have surely brought them together, based on Guidance. So, do not ever be of the ignorant.
6:36
The ones who listen— only they can respond. While the dead, Allah will resurrect them; then to
HIM they will be returned.
6:37
They have said, “Why has a [miraculous] sign not been sent upon him from his
Rabb.” Say, “It is Allah, ever ably powerful over the sending of any sign.” But most of them do not realize.
6:38
And there is not a creature throughout the earth, nor a bird that flies on its two wings, except that they are communities like you.
WE have not neglected anything in the indelible record. Then unto their
Rabb they will all be gathered.
6:39
Those who deny
OUR signs are deaf and dumb, [buried] in [layers of] darkness. Whoever Allah wills,
HE lets go astray, and whoever
HE wills,
HE sets him upon a timelessly straight path.
6:40
Say, “Have you considered— if Allah’s punishment came your way, or the Hour came upon you? Is there other than Allah you will call unto— if you be truthful?”
6:41
Nay! It is
HIM you call unto, so
HE may remove— if
HE wills— whatever you call unto
HIM for. And you do forget whatever partners you associate with
HIM.
6:42
WE did indeed send [the divine Word] unto communities before
you, then
WE seized them with the tribulation and adversity [measured out for them], to afford them a chance to beseech.
6:43
So why, when
OUR might came to them, did they not beseech? But their hearts had hardened, while Satan had made attractive to them what they were doing.
6:44
Then, when they had forgotten what they were reminded of,
WE unlocked for them the access to all things— until when they exulted in what they were given,
WE suddenly seized them. It was then that they became dumbstruck with grief.
6:45
Thus, were cut out the roots of a people who persisted in wrong. and all praise is for Allah, the
Rabb of all realms.
6:46
Say, “Have you considered? If Allah took away your hearing, and your sight, and set a seal upon your hearts, which deity other than Allah can come to you with any of it. Behold how
WE offer for their taking the many signs, yet they remain impervious.
6:47
Say, “Have you considered — if the punishment of Allah came to you unannounced, or with notice?” Would any be destroyed except the wrongdoing people?
6:48
WE send not the Messengers except as conveyors [of divine tidings] and as warners. Whosoever has believed and made amends— no fear is to be upon them, nor shall they grieve.
6:49
Those who deny
OUR signs— the chastisement for their being purposefully disobedient will continue to scrub them.
6:50
Say, “I do not say to you that with me are the treasuries of Allah, nor do I know the unseeable realm. And neither do I say to you that I am an angel. I do not follow except what is revealed to me.” Say, “Can the blind and the insightful one match up? Will you then not reflect.”
6:51
Warn with it [i.e., the Quran] those who are fearfully conscious that they shall be gathered before their
Rabb, [and that] short of
HIM they have neither a protector, nor an intercessor— to enable them to be conscientious.
6:52
And do not dismiss those who invoke their
Rabb, seeking
HIS countenance
morning and evening. Not upon
you is any bit of their reckoning, nor upon them is any bit of
your reckoning. So, for you to dismiss them—
you would be of the wrongdoers.
6:53
Thus, have
WE tested some of them through others, so for them [who failed the test] to say, “Are these the people whom Allah has favored amongst us!” Is Allah not the best in knowing about the ones who are grateful?
6:54
When those who believe in
OUR signs approach
you, say, “Peace be upon you. Your
Rabb has prescribed mercy upon
HIS SELF. Verily, whoever among you has committed a sin out of ignorance and has repented thereafter and made amends—surely then,
HE is forgiving, ever merciful.
6:55
And thus, do
WE distinctly frame the signs, in order that the path of the flouters of divine guidance is plainly discernable.
6:56
Say, “I am categorically forbidden that I worship those you invoke besides Allah.” Say, “I do not follow your whims. If that were the case, I would have strayed, and I would not be of the guided ones.
6:57
Say, “I am guided by telling evidence from my
Rabb, and you have denied
HIM. It is not with me that which you seek to hasten. The sovereign say over all matters
belongs to none except Allah.
HE narrates the Truth, and
HE is the best of deciders.”
6:58
Say, “Had it been with me that which you have tried to hasten, the matter between me and you would have been conclusively settled. Allah is best knowing of the wrongdoers.”
6:59
With
HIM are the keys of the unseeable realm. No one knows of it except
HIM.
HE knows whatever is throughout the land and the water. Not any leaf falls, except
HE knows of it. And there is not a seedling in the layers of darkness of the earth, and not a thing fresh or decayed, except that it is part of a clear indelible record.
6:60
It is
HE Who collects you at night, and
HE knows of all which you committed during the [prior] day. Then
HE raises you in [the day] again, so that a determined term is concluded. Then to
HIM is your defined return, and then
HE will inform you of what you were doing.
6:61
HE is the Absolute Irresistible Force over
HIS free-willed servants.
HE sends protectors over you— till when death is on hand for one of you,
OUR agents collect him. And they are not remiss [of person, time, place, or manner].
6:62
Then they are returned to Allah, their true Patron. Upon
HIM, uncontestably, is the [ultimate] judgement.
HE is the promptest of all reckoners.
6:63
Say, “Who delivers you from the darkness of the land and the sea? You call
HIM, beseechingly and with [inner] secrecy: “If
HE saves us from just this, we shall most certainly be of the grateful.”
6:64
Say, “Allah delivers you from such, and from all predicaments, yet you [go on to] worshipping others besides
HIM!”
6:65
Say, “
HE is the One with complete control over the sending [of the type and scale of] punishment over you, from above or from below your feet, or
HE garbs you into different schisms and thereby makes some of you taste the violence of others.” Observe how
WE offer for the taking the [divine] signs to enable [the motivated of] them to grasp [the Truth].
6:66
And
your people have denied it, while it is the Truth. Say, “I am not in any way a trustee over you.”
6:67
For each event is a place and time, and soon you [all] shall come to know.
6:68
When
you see those who wade into [superficial] discourses about
OUR messages, withdraw from them until they wade into a different topic. And when Satan does cause
you to forget—then, upon the onset of Remembrance, do not sit with the wrongdoing people.
6:69
Not any bit of their reckoning falls upon those who live consciously of God, but [they do serve as] a reminder to enable others to be God-conscious.
6:70
Leave them alone, those who take their religion as a mere contest and a triviality, and the earthly life has beguiled them. And continue to remind with it [i.e., the Quran] lest any soul be given to ruination on account of what it had earned. There is for [any soul], short of Allah, neither a protecting friend, nor an intercessor. And if any soul offers any justification— every [conceivable] justification— it will not be accepted from it. Those are the ones given to ruination on account of what they had earned. For them is a drink of a fluid bereft of mercy [
ḥamīm], and an agonizing punishment because they were rejecting the Truth.
6:71
Say, “Shall we call, besides Allah, something that can neither benefit us nor harm us and [are] we to be turned back on our heels after Allah has guided us? [And be] like one lured by the satanic entities, [to be mired] in the earth, baffled? [Even while] he has fellows inviting him to Guidance, “Come to us.” Say, “The guidance of Allah— that is the Guidance [which matters] and we have been commanded that we surrender ourselves to the
Rabb of the realms.
6:72
And [we are instructed]: ‘Maintain the Prayers for anchor and be conscious of God.
HE is the One unto WHOM you all will be gathered.’”
6:73
It is
HE WHO created the heavens and earth in [expression of the] Truth. Any day [within time]
HE says, “BE,” it comes into being.
HIS Word is Reality. And
HIs is the dominion the day [souls] are blown into the forms.
HE is the Knower of the unwitnessed and the witnessed.
HE is all-wise, all-aware.
6:74
[Remember] when Abraham said to his father, Aazar, “Do you take idols as deities? Surely, I see you and your people are in brazen error.”
6:75
And like that,
WE show Abraham the dominion of the heavens and the earth, so he may be of the entirely certain:
6:76
When the night held sway over him, he watched a star. He said, “This is my
Rabb.” Then when it faded, he said, “I do not love the ones which fade away.”
6:77
But then when he watched the moon in ascendancy, he said, “This is my
Rabb.” But then when it faded away, he said, “If my
Rabb was not guiding me, I would certainly be of the ones astray.”
6:78
But then when he saw the sun breaking out, he said, “This is my
Rabb. This is the greatest still. Then when it faded out, he said, “O my people, behold, I am free from whatever [forms and phenomena] you worship.
6:79
Surely, I have turned my face, in earnest, unto
HIM Who originated the heavens and earth, and I am not of the polytheists.”
6:80
And his people disputed with him. He said, “Are you given cause to contend with me about Allah, while
HE in fact has guided me? I do not fear what you ascribe as partners with
HIM, [I fear nothing] except anything which my
Rabb wills. My
Rabb has ever contained all things within [HIS] knowledge. Will you then not mindfully consider?
6:81
How should I fear what you associate, while you do not fear that you associate others with Allah, that which
HE has not sent down any authority upon you regarding it! Which one of these two sides has a better right to security [without fear], if you were to know?
6:82
The ones who have embraced Faith, and do not wrap their beliefs in false notions— for them is true security and they are the ones who are rightly guided.
6:83
That argument of
OURS, WE gave to Abraham against his people.
WE raise in degrees whomever
WE will. Behold! Your
Rabb is all-wise, all-knowing.
6:84
WE gifted him with Isaac and Jacob—each
WE guided. And Noah,
WE guided earlier. And from his descendants, David, Solomon, Job, Joseph, Moses and Aaron. Thus, do
WE reward the ones who do good in selfless devotion to God.
6:85
And Zachariah and
Yahya and Jesus and
Ilyas—all were of the righteous.
6:86
And Ishmael, Elisha, Jonah, and Lot. Each one,
WE did grace over all the realms.
6:87
And from their forefathers and progeny and brethren—
WE designated them, and
WE guided them to a straight path.
6:88
That is Allah’s guidance.
HE guides with it, whosoever of
HIS devotees
HE wills. And if they had associated partners [with God], categorically futile would have been what ensued from what they were doing.
6:89
Those are the ones to whom
WE gave the timeless book, and sound judgement, and prophethood. Hence if these people are ungrateful thereof, [it is their loss, for]
WE have actually entrusted it to a people who are not ungrateful thereof.
6:90
Those are the ones whom Allah has guided. So, follow their guidance. Say, “I am not asking you for any due for it. This is not but a reminder for all realms.”
6:91
They have not grasped the measure [of the almightiness of] Allah, by the right of
HIS [immeasurable] measure, when they say, “Not has Allah sent down upon a mortal anything.” Say “Who sent down the timeless Book by which Moses brought light and guidance for humankind? You have produced parchments of it, some you reveal, and a lot you conceal. You were taught what neither you nor your forefathers knew.” Say, “Allah!” and then leave them playing in their shallow discourses.
6:92
This [i.e., the Quran] is a timeless book.
WE sent it down, packed with blessings and as a validating yardstick of what came before it so that
you may warn the mother of all cities and all those around it. And the ones who believe in the Hereafter believe in [the Quran], and it is they who are conscientiously protective of their prayers.
6:93
And who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah
or claims, “It was revealed to me,” while nothing was revealed to him? And one who has said, “I myself will reveal in the likeness of what has been revealed by Allah.” If you were to see when the wrongdoers are in the throes of death, and the angels with a stretch of their hands [beckon them], “Give up your souls. This day you will be recompensed with the punishment of humiliation, for your saying about Allah other than the truth. And you were arrogantly defiant
toward
HIS signs.”
6:94
And [they will hear from God], “You have come to
US alone [and empty handed], just like how you were when
WE created you the first time. You have left behind you whatever
WE allowed you to claim and possess [as yours]. And
WE do not see your intercessors with you— those about whom you so surely supposed that they had a stake in you. That [which was] between you and them has been severed, and whatever you were claiming has forsaken you.”
6:95
Allah!
HE is the splitter of the seed and the pit.
HE brings forth the living from the dead and
HE is one to bring forth the dead from the living. That is Allah for you. So whence and how are you being hoodwinked?
6:96
Cleaver of the dawn of day,
HE has made the night still and the sun and the moon bound to a calculation. That is a measuring out of the Almighty, the Ever Knowing.
6:97
It is
HE WHO has made for you the [distant] stars, so you may navigate by them through the layers of darkness of the land and the sea. Thus, have
WE made
OUR signs distinct for a people who [seek to] know.
6:98
It is
HE WHO has brought you into being from one soul, then [appointed for each] a habitation and a repository.
WE have made
OUR signs distinct for people who grasp the truth.
6:99
It is
HE WHO sent down water from the sky and thereby brought forth through it, vegetation of all kinds. Then from it,
WE brought forth greenery, and from it
WE brought forth densely clustered seed. And from the spathe of the date palm, low-hanging date-clusters; and gardens with grapes, olives, and pomegranates, with evocative resemblance [to its kind across the gardens] and still unique [within each cluster]. Look at [each] fruit of HIS, when it blossoms and [when it] reaches its ripening. In that are certain signs for those who believe.
6:100
And they make the
Jinn partners with Allah, while
HE created them, and attach to
HIM sons and daughters without any knowledge. Transcendent and exalted is
HE above anything they depict.
6:101
Originator of the heavens and the earth is
HE. How and why is
HE to have a child when there was not ever to be a consort for HIM.
HE has created everything, and
HE is of all things, ever knowing.
6:102
Such is Allah, your
Rabb. There is no other deity except
HIM. Creator of all things. So then, worship
HIM.
HE is the trustee over all things.
6:103
No vision can capture
HIM whereas
HE captures all visions.
HE is un-fathomably subtle, all-aware.
6:104
Insightful signs have now come to you from your
Rabb. Therefore, whoever has gained insight, it is for his soul and whoever has stayed blind then that too is upon it. [Say], “I am not a guardian over you.”
6:105
And thus, do
WE offer for the taking the [divine] signs, while [allowing] that they may say, “You have studied,” whereas it is in order that
WE may tellingly convey it to a people who [seek to] know.
6:106
Follow what has been revealed to
you from
your Rabb. There is no deity except
HIM. And withdraw from the polytheists.
6:107
If Allah had willed, they would not have associated others with God.
WE have not made
you their guardian, neither are
you anywise a trustee over them.
6:108
Do not revile those who they invoke besides Allah, lest they revile Allah in rivalry without knowledge. Thus, it is that
WE have allowed for all peoples to find their [chosen] actions appealing to their selves. Thereupon [after they have freely chosen], to their
Rabb is their defined return.
HE will then inform them of what they were doing.
6:109
They swear by Allah, the most fervent of their oaths, that if there came to them a miracle, they would certainly become believers through it. Say, “The miracles are only with Allah. And what will make you realize that when a miracle comes, they will not believe?
6:110
WE will revert their mindsets and their perspectives, to like how they, in the first instance, were not believing in it [i.e., the divine Message].
WE leave them to themselves, wandering blindly in their uncontained transgression.
6:111
And if it were that
WE had sent angels to them, and the dead spoke to them, and
WE had gathered everything together in front of them, no way were they going to believe, except that Allah had willed. But most of them live obliviously.
6:112
Thus, it is that
WE have rendered enmity for every prophet, through disobedient beings of humankind and
Jinn-kind, some inspiring others to delusion, via the floweriness of [their] rhetoric. If
your Rabb had so willed, they would not have done that. So, leave them and that which they craft—
6:113
And to let the mindsets of those who do not believe in the Hereafter incline to it, and to let them be pleased with it, and to let them perpetrate whatever they are perpetrators of.
6:114
[Say], “Shall I seek other than Allah as judge? While it is
HE who sent down upon you the timeless Book, with decisive principles.” Those to whom
WE gave the timeless Book [before you] know that it [i.e., the Quran] is a bestowal from
your Rabb with the right [of the Truth]. Therefore, be not
you of the skeptical ones.
6:115
The Word of
your Rabb has been fulfilled truly and justly. Nothing whatsoever can change
HIS Word.
HE is the all-hearing, the ever knowing.
6:116
If you obey most of the ones in the land, they will mislead you from the way of Allah. They follow nothing else except the [prevalent] assumption. They themselves do nothing but project guesses.
6:117
Verily! Your
Rabb, it is
HE Who best knows who strays from
HIS path. And
HE knows best about the rightly guided.
6:118
So [irrespective of their prevailing norms], eat of that upon which the name of Allah is invoked, if you are believers in
HIS signs.
6:119
Why should it be for you that you not eat that upon which the name of Allah has been mentioned!
HE has categorically stated to you what is forbidden to you, excepting therefrom what you are compelled to. Indeed, many of them do lead astray with their own whims, devoid of knowledge. Surely, it is
your Rabb— HE knows best about the ones who cross the limits.
6:120
Abandon [both], the sin’s outer aspects and its inner aspects. Behold! Those who deliberately engage in sin will soon be given the consequence of what they were perpetrating.
6:121
And do not partake of that upon which the name of Allah is not mentioned. That indeed is brazen disobedience. The satanic entities do indeed enthuse their allies to argue with you. If you obey them and adopt their ways, you would be categorical polytheists.
6:122
Is one who was dead and to whom
WE gave life and who walks amongst men in the light
WE rendered for him, like one who is in layers of darkness without a way out of it? Thus [it follows that] whatever the disbelievers have been doing has been made appealing to them.
6:123
And thus,
WE have rendered [dead and in darkness] in every town the greatest of its criminals, so they may plot therein. They do not plot except against their own souls, and they do not have any sense of it.
6:124
When a message comes to them, they say, “We shall not believe until we are given the like of what was given to messengers of Allah.” Allah best knows where
HE places
HIS message. A humiliation from Allah is to afflict the ones who knowingly flout [divine guidance], and a severe punishment on account of what they have been plotting.
6:125
So, he who Allah wants that
HE guides—
HE expands his bosom to Islam. And whoever
HE wants that
HE lets stray—
HE makes his bosom narrow and closed, as if he were ascending into the sky. Thus does Allah manifest the grime [of spiritual blindness] on those who disbelieve.
6:126
And this is a path of
your Rabb— timelessly straight.
WE have distinctly framed the verses for the people who abide in the remembrance of God.
6:127
For them is the Home of Peace with their
Rabb.
HE is their protector and ally, because of what they were doing.
6:128
A day
HE gathers them all together: “O you, the assembly of
Jinn, you did indeed claim many from humankind!” And their allies of the humankind said, “Our
Rabb, we relished each other [with no fear of consequence], and [now] we have reached our term which
YOU set for us.”
HE said, “The fire is your dwelling, abiders therein, except as Allah has willed.” Behold!
Your Rabb is all-wise, all-knowing.
6:129
Thus, do
WE ally some of the wrongdoers unto others for what they were earning.
6:130
“O you, the assembly of
Jinn and humankind, did not a Messenger come to you from amongst you, relating
MY messages to you and warning you of the meeting of this day of yours?” They said, “We have testified against our own selves.” The earthly life had deluded them, and [this day] they did testify over their souls that they were nonbelievers.
6:131
That [i.e., the sending of messengers] is because
your Rabb is not one to destroy settlements unjustly, while their peoples lack sense of the Truth.
6:132
For all, are degrees [of responsibility, flowing] from what they did. And
your Rabb is not anywise unmindful about what they are doing.
6:133
Your Rabb is the self-sufficiently independent One, the owner of Mercy. If
HE wills,
HE can do away with you and grant succession after you to what
HE wills, just as
HE brought you into being from the progeny of another people.
6:134
Verily! That which you have been promised is sure to come, and you cannot in any way be thwarters.
6:135
Say, “O my people work according to your position, I am a worker, at work. For soon you will know for whom is to be the Home’s lasting claim. Of certain the wrongdoers will not succeed.”
6:136
They tender a share for Allah from what
HE produced of the crop and cattle [for them], declaring, “This here is for Allah”— per their claim— and “This here is for our partners [i.e., other gods].” Thus [for their blindness to the Sole Source], that which was [apportioned] for their partners does not reach Allah, and that which was [apportioned] for Allah, joins with their partners. How badly they judge!
6:137
In that manner [of living falsely], their ‘partners
’ have made fair-seeming, the killing of their children, for many of the polytheists— that they bring them ruin and that they give them the cover of their faith. If Allah so willed, they would not have done that. So, leave them and what they fabricate.
6:138
And they say, “These cattle and crop are sacrosanct. No one is to eat them except whom we will,” per their own claim. And cattle forbidden from bearing burden, and cattle over which they mention not the name of Allah— fabrications attributed to
HIM.
HE shall give them the consequence for that which they were fabricating.
6:139
And they say, “That which is in the bellies of these cattle is exclusively for our males and forbidden to our spouses.” And if it is still born, then they are shareholders in it.
HE shall requite them for their assertions. Behold!
HE is all-wise, ever knowing.
6:140
They have already lost— the ones who killed their children in foolishness, bereft of knowledge, and have forbidden what Allah has provided for them as sustenance— a fabrication of theirs attributed to Allah. They have indeed gone astray. They are not rightly guided.
6:141
And
HE is the One Who has brought into being gardens, tended and untended; and the date palms and the crops— diverse are its edibles; and olives and pomegranates, similar and unique. Eat of
HIS fruits when
HE lades [the garden with] fruit, and give its due on its harvest day, and do not waste. Hearken! Allah does not love the prodigal.
6:142
Of the livestock [
HE has given you], some are burden-bearing, and some are herd animals. Eat of that which Allah has provided for your sustenance, and do not follow the footsteps of Satan. Hearken, he is a blatant enemy to you.
6:143
Eight paired mates: Of the sheep two, and of the goats two. Say, “Has
HE forbidden the two males or the two females, or that which the wombs of two females may contain? Inform me with knowledge, if you are truthful.
6:144
And of the camels two, and of the cows two. Say, “Has
HE forbidden the males or the females or that which the wombs of the females may contain? Or were you witnesses when Allah enjoined this? So, who does more wrong than one who invents a lie against Allah
to mislead people [who are] bereft of knowledge? Of certain, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.
6:145
Say, “I do not find in what has been revealed to me, [anything] forbidden upon the eater who eats it, except that it be dead, or drained blood, or the flesh of swine—it is indeed a foul [practice]— or it be a perverted offering, dedicated to other than Allah. Whoever is forced by necessity—other than wanting, and not beyond limits of need—then indeed,
your Rabb is most forgiving, ever merciful.
6:146
And upon those who followed the Jewish faith,
WE forbade all animals with claws. And from cows and sheep,
WE forbade them their fat, except that which is on their backs or entrails, or that which is blended with the bone. [Through] that
WE penalized them for their rebellion.
WE are the truth teller.
6:147
Hence, if they give
you the lie, say, “Your
Rabb is One of infinite mercy, but
HIS might will not be averted from a guilty people.”
6:148
Those who worship false gods will say, “If Allah had so willed, neither we nor our forefathers, would have worshipped false gods, and neither would we have forbidden anything.” That is how those before them gave the lie, until they tasted
OUR might. Say, “Do you have any knowledge with you? [If so] then bring it forth for us?” You do not follow but the assumption [of others] and you do nothing but project guesses.
6:149
Say, “[Per past evidence], for Allah is the conclusive argument. If
HE had so willed,
HE would have rightly guided you all.”
6:150
Say, “Out with your witnesses, the ones who bear witness that Allah has forbidden this!” So, if [to perpetuate a lie], they testify, then do not
you [counter] testify in their company, and do not follow the whims of those who refute
OUR messages. They are the ones who do not believe in the Hereafter, and they are the ones who equate others with their
Rabb.
6:151
Say: Come. I will recite what is forbidden to you by your
Rabb: Do not associate anyone or anything with
HIM and be good with parents; and do not kill your children from want.
WE sustain you and them. And draw not near to immoralities— whatever is outwardly manifested of them, and whatever is inwardly held; And do not kill a soul which Allah has made sacred, except by right [of justice]. That is what
HE has entrusted you with, to enable you to act with enlightened reason.
6:152
And draw not near to the wealth of the orphan, until he reaches his maturity—except that which is best intended. And give fully back, the measure and the weight, with fairness and justice. Not do
WE task a soul except by its capacity. And whenever you speak, be just even if it were to [unfavorably impact] a close relative. And be true to the end, with the covenant of Allah. That
HE has instructed you with, so you may be conscientiously mindful.
6:153
And: This is
MY path, timelessly straight; so, follow it and do not follow the ways by which you sever from
HIS way. That
HE has instructed you with, to enable you to remain conscious of HIM.
6:154
Further to that,
WE gave Moses the timeless Book, precisely for one who pursued goodness, and as distinct counsel for all things, and as guidance and mercy, to enable them to believe in their
Rabb’s meeting.
6:155
And this [i.e., the Quran] is a timeless Book.
WE sent it down as a blessing. So, follow it and heed it conscientiously, to enable you to receive mercy.
6:156
Lest you say, “The timeless Book was sent down to only two groups before us, and we were indeed unapprised of their teaching.”
6:157
Or you say, “Had the timeless Book been sent down on us, we would have surely been better guided than them.” And now there have come to you telling evidence from your
Rabb, along with guidance and mercy. Who does more wrong than one who has denied the verses of Allah and turned away from them in rejection?
WE shall requite those who turned away from
OUR signs with the worst of punishment, because they were turning away.
6:158
Are they expecting aught except the angels coming to them, or
your Rabb coming to them, or the coming of some signs of
your Rabb? It will not profit any soul, its faith, the day some signs of
your Rabb come— not [the soul which] did not believe before that or earn any good for itself through its faith. Say, “Bide. We [too] are biders.”
6:159
Surely, those who split up their religion and became sects,
you are not of them in any way. Their matter is only unto Allah. Then
HE will inform them of what they were doing.
6:160
Whoever comes with the beautiful deed [of his], for him shall be ten of its kind. Whoever comes with the foul deed [of his], his consequence for it will not be aught, except its kind, and they will not be wronged.
6:161
Say, “As for me! My
Rabb has guided me to a straight path — a right faith, the spiritual fellowship of Abraham, the earnest seeker of truth. He was not of the polytheists.
6:162
Say, “Truly, my prayer and my sacrifice, my manner of living and my passing away are for Allah, the
Rabb of all realms—
6:163
Not ever a partner, has
HE. And with that am I commanded, and I am the first of the ones who surrender [to
HIM, i.e., Muslims].”
6:164
Say, “Should I seek a
Rabb other than Allah, while
HE is the
Rabb of all things? Each soul earns nothing except [what is] on it, and neither does any bearer bear the burden of another. Then unto your
Rabb is your defined return. Thereupon
HE will inform you all, concerning all wherein you were differing.
6:165
It is
HE Who made you the earth’s viceregents, and raised some of you over others in rank, so that
HE may test you with that which
HE has given to you. Behold!
Your Rabb is swift of requital. And indeed,
HE is truly forgiving, ever merciful.
