52:2
And by an inscribed book
52:3
In a wide-open scroll
52:4
By the oft visited House
52:5
By the ceiling raised high
52:7
Surely, the chastisement of
your Rabb is an event certain
52:8
It has none to push it back.
52:9
A day the sky categorically sways
52:10
And the mountains categorically move
52:11
Then, woe that day to the truth-beliers
52:12
The ones who in discourse merely play.
52:13
A day they are pushed toward the fire of
Jahannam, in a decisive push.
52:14
“This is the fire which you were denying
52:15
Is this then sorcery or do you not see?
52:16
Fuel it. Then be patient or impatient— all the same to you. You are requited for no more and no less than for what you used to do.”
52:17
Surely, the God-conscious are in gardens and in bliss,
52:18
Beaming with joy because of what their
Rabb has given them. And their
Rabb did
spare them the suffering of
Jaḥīm:
52:19
“Eat and drink pleasurably on account of what you were doing.”
52:20
Reclining on well-arranged honored couches. And
WE paired them with earnest-eyed heavenly companions.
52:21
And the ones who had embraced Faith and whose progeny followed them in faith—
WE joined their progeny with them, and they were not deprived of any of their doings. Each person is pledged to what he has earned.
52:22
WE furnished them with delicious fruits and meats, any of what they desire.
52:23
Therein they exchange between them a cup— no idle talk therein, nor any aspect of sin,
52:24
And pages making the rounds, waiting upon them, as if they were treasured pearls.
52:25
And some approached others, enquiring of each other:
52:26
They said, “Earlier, among our people, we had always been apprehensive [about this day].”
52:27
So, Allah has favored us and spared us the suffering of
Samūm.”
52:28
[Said others], “We certainly were beseeching
HIM from before.
HE indeed is the Grantor of virtue, the ever Merciful!"
52:29
So then, keep reminding.
You are not by the grace of
your Rabb a soothsayer, nor a man possessed.
52:30
Or do they say, “A poet— we await with him the vagary of Fate.”
52:31
Say, “Wait. Alongside you, I am of the ones who wait.”
52:32
Are their insightful dreams bidding them to this, or are they an unrestrainedly usurping people?
52:33
Or do they say, “He has made up words.” Nay! They do not believe.
52:34
So let them bring a moral discourse the like of it— if they ever are to be the truthful ones.
52:35
Or were they created out of nothingness or are they the very creators [of their own selves]?
52:36
Or did they create the heavens and the earth? Nay! They do not pursue certainty.
52:37
Are the treasuries of
your Rabb with them? Or are they the ones writing the script?
52:38
Or do they have a stairway [to the heavens] by means of which they listen? So then, let their listener come with some clear authority.
52:39
Or is it [in the same manner of speech] that for
HIM are daughters and sons for you?
52:40
Or do
you ask them for compensation whereby they are heavily burdened with debt?
52:41
Or are they privy to the unseeable Realm, therefore they are busy writing?
52:42
Or do they intend [to devise] a plot? For then, those who have disbelieved will themselves be the targets of the plot.
52:43
Or is there a god for them other than Allah? Limitless glory is Allah’s, transcending whatever they associate with
HIM.
52:44
And if they were to see a fragment from the sky falling, they would say, “[Just] a heaped cloud.”
52:45
So, let them be until they face their day— a day in which they will be stunned, speechless.
52:46
— a day, their scheming will not avail them in any way, and neither will they be helped
52:47
For the ones who have persisted in wrong, there indeed is a chastisement besides that. But most of them do not realize.
52:48
Persevere patiently for the judgment of
your Rabb—
you indeed are under
OUR sight. And extol the limitless glory of
your Rabb with praise, when
you rise,
52:49
and within [parts of] the night— extol
HIS limitless glory, and upon the retreat of the stars.
