fratres mei praeterierunt me sicut torrens qui raptim transit in convallibus
My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks that pass away;
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
My brothers have dealt deceitfully like a brook, Like the streams of the brooks that pass away,
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away,
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, As the channel of brooks that pass away;
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a stream, as the channel of streams which pass away,
My brethren have passed by me, as the torrent that passeth swiftly in the valleys.
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away;
My brothers are treacherous as a torrent-bed, as torrential streams that pass away,
My brothers have been as deceptive as seasonal rivers, like the seasonal riverbeds that flood.
My brothers are as treacherous as a wadi, as seasonal streams that overflow
But my brothers have acted treacherously like a cascading river, like torrential rivers that overflow.
My brothers have been as treacherous as a seasonal stream, and as the riverbeds of the intermittent streams that flow away.
"My brothers have acted deceitfully like a wadi, Like the torrents of wadis which vanish,
But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow
My brothers, you have proved as unreliable as a seasonal brook that overflows its banks in the spring
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
My brothers have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away;
But you, my friends, have not helped me when I need you. You are like streams that quickly become dry. There is no water when you need it.
My brethren have deceived as a brook, As a stream of brooks they pass away.
My brothers have been like rivers that are not there when needed.
But you, my brothers, are unpredictable like an unexpected flood of the wadi that quickly rises and then falls,
My brother, you have proved as unreliable as a brook; it floods when there is ice and snow, but in hot weather, disappears. The caravans turn aside to be refreshed, but there is nothing there to drink, and so they perish.
But my brethren have proved to be as treacherous as a torrent, like watercourses that suddenly run dry;
My brothers have betrayed me like a wadi, Like the torrents of wadis which pass away,
My brethren have lied to me as a brook; they passed away as an impetuous stream,
My brothers are as treacherous as a wadi, as seasonal streams that overflow
[You] my brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, as the channel of brooks that pass away,
But my brothers cannot be counted on. They are like streams that do not always flow, streams that sometimes run over.
“When desperate people give up on God Almighty, their friends, at least, should stick with them. But my brothers are fickle as a gulch in the desert— one day they’re gushing with water From melting ice and snow cascading out of the mountains, But by midsummer they’re dry, gullies baked dry in the sun. Travelers who spot them and go out of their way for a drink end up in a waterless gulch and die of thirst. Merchant caravans from Tema see them and expect water, tourists from Sheba hope for a cool drink. They arrive so confident—but what a disappointment! They get there, and their faces fall! And you, my so-called friends, are no better— there’s nothing to you! One look at a hard scene and you shrink in fear. It’s not as though I asked you for anything— I didn’t ask you for one red cent— Nor did I beg you to go out on a limb for me. So why all this dodging and shuffling?
But my brothers are as undependable as gullies that dry up, undependable as seasonal streams which overflow
My companions are treacherous like a torrent-bed, like freshets that pass away,
But you, my friends, you deceive me like streams that go dry when no rain comes.
My brethren passed from me, as a strand doeth, that passeth (by) rushingly in great valleys. (My brothers, that is, my kinsmen, have passed by me, like a stream doeth, which rusheth through great valleys.)
But you are treacherous
My brethren are treacherous as a torrent-bed, as freshets that pass away,
My companions are treacherous like a torrent bed, like swollen streams that pass away,
My companions are treacherous like a torrent-bed, like freshets that pass away,
My companions are treacherous like a stream in the desert, like channels that overrun their streambeds,
“My brothers have acted deceitfully like a brook, Like the torrents of brooks that vanish,
My brothers are treacherous as a torrent-bed, as torrential streams that pass away,
My companions are undependable as a wadi, as watercourses that run dry in the wadies;
My brothers have acted deceitfully like a wadi, Like the torrents of wadis which drain away,
But my ·brothers [C Job’s three friends] cannot be counted on. They are like ·streams that do not always flow [L wadis; C seasonal riverbeds that are dry in the summer], streams that sometimes run over.
My brothers have acted deceptively, as a seasonal stream, as a torrential stream that overflows
My brethren are treacherous as a torrent-bed, as freshets that pass away,
But my friends have stopped being kind to me. They are like streams that only flow for part of the year. They are like rivers that flow over their banks
My brethren have dealt deceitfully as a brook, and as the stream of brooks they pass away;
But my brothers are as deceptive as vadis, as vadi streams that soon run dry;
My companions are treacherous like a torrent-bed, like freshets that pass away,
Achai (my brethren) have dealt deceitfully as a wadi, and as the torrents of wadis they vanish away;
My brothers have been as deceptive as seasonal rivers, like the seasonal riverbeds that flood.
My brothers have acted deceitfully like a riverbed, like the streams of the riverbeds that run dry;
But I cannot depend on you, my brothers. You are like a stream that has no water when the weather is dry but is flooded when the rains come.
But my brothers cannot be counted on. They are like streams that do not flow regularly, streams that sometimes run over.
My companions are treacherous like a torrent-bed; like a streambed of wadis they flow away,
But my brothers are as undependable as intermittent streams, as the streams that overflow
