6:1  Therefore let us leave standing the · elementary teaching about Christ and let us move on to · maturity, not laying again a foundation of repentance from dead works and of faith in God,
6:2  instruction about cleansing rites and laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment.
6:3  And we will do this, if God permits. ·
6:4  For it is impossible when those who have once been enlightened and have tasted the heavenly gift · and have become partakers of the Holy Spirit
6:5  and have tasted the goodness of God’s word and the powers of the coming age
6:6  and have committed apostasy, to restore them to repentance, since to their own harm they are crucifying the Son of God again and exposing him to public shame.
6:7  For the field that soaks up the frequent rain that falls on it and yields a crop useful for those for whom · it is cultivated, receives a blessing from · God.
6:8  But if it produces thorns and thistles, it is useless and about to be cursed; its · fate is to be burned.
6:9  But we are convinced of better things in your case, beloved ·—· things that accompany salvation—even though we speak as we do.
6:10  For God is not so unjust · as to forget · your work and the love you have demonstrated for · his cause, when you served and continue to serve · fellow believers.
6:11  But we want each one of you to demonstrate the same earnestness to the very end for the fulfillment of your hope,
6:12  so that you will not be lazy, but imitators of those who by faith and perseverance inherit the promises.
6:13  When God made a promise to Abraham, · since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself,
6:14  saying, “Surely I will bless you greatly and increase your descendants abundantly.”
6:15  And thus by patient endurance, Abraham received what had been promised.
6:16  For people swear by · someone greater than themselves, and the oath confirms what is said and puts to an end all dispute.
6:17  Because God wanted to show more · clearly to the heirs of the promise the unchanging nature of his purpose, he confirmed it with an oath,
6:18  so that through two unchangeable facts, in which it is impossible for God to lie, · we who have taken refuge might have strong incentive to hold fast to the hope set before us.
6:19  We have this hope as an anchor for life, both sure and steadfast—· a hope that enters the inner shrine behind the veil,
6:20  where Jesus has entered on our behalf as forerunner, having become a high priest for all time according to the order of Melchizedek.
