5:1  For every high priest, being chosen from among men, is appointed on behalf of men to represent them in matters related to · God, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins.
5:2  He is able to deal compassionately with the ignorant and going astray, since he too is subject to weakness.
5:3  · That is why he is obligated to offer sacrifice for his own sins, just as he does for the sins of the people. ·
5:4  And no one takes this honor on his own accord, but receives it when called by · God, just as Aaron also was.
5:5  So also · Christ did not exalt himself to become high priest, but was appointed by the one who said to him, “You are my Son, today I have become your Father”;
5:6  as also in another place God says, “You are a priest for all time according to the order of Melchizedek.”
5:7  In the days of his flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud crying and tears, to the one who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his godly fear.
5:8  Although he was a son, he learned obedience from what he suffered. ·
5:9  And once made perfect, he became for all those who obey him the source of eternal salvation,
5:10  having been designated by · God a high priest according to the order of Melchizedek.
5:11  On this subject we have much · to say and it is hard to explain, since you have become sluggish in understanding.
5:12  · For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you have need of someone to teach you again · the basic elements · of God’s revelation. · · You have become people having need of milk, not solid food;
5:13  for everyone who lives on milk is inexperienced with the teaching about righteousness, since he is still a child.
5:14  But solid food is for the mature, · for those who by virtue of their maturity have · senses that are trained to distinguish good from evil.
