4:1  Therefore while the promise of entering his rest is still open, · let us fear lest any one of you may seem to be excluded from it.
4:2  For we also had good news proclaimed to us just as they did; but the word they heard did not benefit · those who were not united with those who listened in faith
4:3  For we who have believed do enter that rest, just as God has said, “As I swore in · my anger, ‘They shall certainly not enter · my rest,’” and yet his work has been completed since the foundation of the world
4:4  For somewhere he has spoken of the seventh day in this manner: “And God rested · on the seventh day · from all · his works.”
4:5  And furthermore in this context he said, “They shall certainly not enter · my rest.”
4:6  Therefore since it remains for some to enter it, and those who previously had the good news proclaimed to them failed to enter because of disobedience,
4:7  God again ordains a certain day—“today”—saying through David, after so long a time, just as it has been said before, “Today, if you hear · his voice, do not harden · your hearts.”
4:8  For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken of another time after that.
4:9  Consequently there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.
4:10  For the one who enters · God’s rest has also rested from · his works, as God did from · his. ·
4:11  Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that · rest; otherwise one of you might fall by the same sort of disobedience.
4:12  For the word of God is living and effective, · sharper than any two-edged sword, · cutting through so as to divide soul from spirit, joints from marrow. It is even able to discern the thoughts and deliberations of the heart.
4:13  And nothing in creation is hidden from God’s sight, but everything is uncovered and exposed to the eyes of the one to whom we must give · account.
4:14  Therefore since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us continue to hold fast to our confession.
4:15  For we do not have a high priest who is unable to feel · our weaknesses, but one who has been tempted in every way just as we are—yet without sin.
4:16  Therefore let us approach with confidence the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace for help when we need it.
