Dal-Ra-Kaf



To overtake, follow up, drop closely, one part following another uninterruptedly, sought/pursued and attained/reached, perceived it or attained a knowledge of it (i.e. by senses), attained its final time or state or its utmost point or degree, it passed away and came to an end, came to naught, became exhausted, failed entirely, the bottom or lowest depth of a thing i.e. sea or of anything deep, a stage downwards (e.g. Hell).

وَلَقَدْ أَوْحَيْنَا إِلَى مُوسَى أَنْ أَسْرِ بِعِبَادِي فَاضْرِبْ لَهُمْ طَرِيقا ً فِي الْبَحْرِ يَبَسا ً لاَ تَخَافُ دَرَكا ً وَلاَ تَخْشَى
Wa Laqad 'Awĥaynā 'Ilá Mūsá 'An 'Asri Bi`ibādī FāĐrib Lahum Ţarīqāan Fī Al-Baĥri Yabasāan Lā Takhāfu Darakāan Wa Lā Takhshá

And We inspired to Moses: "Take My servants out, and strike for them a path through the sea that is dry. You shall not fear being overtaken, nor be concerned."

إِنَّ الْمُنَافِقِينَ فِي الدَّرْكِ الأَسْفَلِ مِنَ النَّارِ وَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُمْ نَصِيرا ً
'Inna Al-Munāfiqīna Fī Ad-Darki Al-'Asfali Mina An-Nāri Wa Lan Tajida Lahum Naşīrāan

The hypocrites will be in the lowest pit of the Fire; and you will not find for them a victor.

وَجَاوَزْنَا بِبَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ الْبَحْرَ فَأَتْبَعَهُمْ فِرْعَوْنُ وَجُنُودُه ُُ بَغْيا ً وَعَدْواً حَتَّى إِذَا أَدْرَكَهُ الْغَرَقُ قَالَ آمَنْتُ أَنَّهُ لاَ إِلَهَ إِلاَّ الَّذِي آمَنَتْ بِه ِِ بَنُو إِسْرَائِيلَ وَأَنَا مِنَ الْمُسْلِمِينَ
Wa Jāwaznā Bibanī 'Isrā'īla Al-Baĥra Fa'atba`ahum Fir`awnu Wa Junūduhu Baghyāan Wa`adwan Ĥattá 'Idhā 'Adrakahu Al-Gharaqu Qāla 'Āmantu 'Annahu Lā 'Ilāha 'Illā Al-Ladhī 'Āmanat Bihi Banū 'Isrā'īla Wa 'Anā Mina Al-Muslimīna

And We helped the Children of Israel cross the sea, and Pharaoh and his soldiers followed them out of hatred and animosity. But when he was certain to drown, he said: "I believe that there is no god except the One in whom the Children of Israel believe, and I am of those who have submitted."

أَيْنَمَا تَكُونُوا يُدْرِكُّمُ الْمَوْتُ وَلَوْ كُنتُمْ فِي بُرُوج ٍ مُشَيَّدَة ٍ وَإِنْ تُصِبْهُمْ حَسَنَة ٌ يَقُولُوا هَذِه ِِ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ وَإِنْ تُصِبْهُمْ سَيِّئَة ٌ يَقُولُوا هَذِه ِِ مِنْ عِنْدِكَ قُلْ كُلّ ٌ مِنْ عِنْدِ اللَّهِ فَمَالِ هَاؤُلاَء الْقَوْمِ لاَ يَكَادُونَ يَفْقَهُونَ حَدِيثا ً
'Aynamā Takūnū Yudrikkumu Al-Mawtu Wa Law Kuntum Fī Burūjin Mushayyadatin Wa 'In Tuşibhum Ĥasanatun Yaqūlū Hadhihi Min `Indi Allāhi Wa 'In Tuşibhum Sayyi'atun Yaqūlū Hadhihi Min `Indika Qul Kullun Min `Indi Allāhi Famāli Hā'uulā' Al-Qawmi Lā Yakādūna Yafqahūna Ĥadīthāan

Wherever you may be, death will find you, even if you are in fortified towers. If any good befalls them, they say: "This is from God," and if any evil befalls them, they say: "This is from you!" Say: "All is from God;" what is wrong with these people, they barely understand any narrative!

4:100
وَمَنْ يُهَاجِرْ فِي سَبِيلِ اللَّهِ يَجِدْ فِي الأَرْضِ مُرَاغَما ً كَثِيرا ً وَسَعَة ً وَمَنْ يَخْرُجْ مِنْ بَيْتِه ِِ مُهَاجِرا ً إِلَى اللَّهِ وَرَسُولِه ِِ ثُمَّ يُدْرِكْهُ الْمَوْتُ فَقَدْ وَقَعَ أَجْرُه ُُ عَلَى اللَّهِ وَكَانَ اللَّهُ غَفُورا ً رَحِيما ً
Wa Man Yuhājir Fī Sabīli Allāhi Yajid Fī Al-'ArĐi Murāghamāan Kathīrāan Wa Sa`atan Wa Man Yakhruj Min Baytihi Muhājirāan 'Ilá Allāhi Wa Rasūlihi Thumma Yudrik/hu Al-Mawtu Faqad Waqa`a 'Ajruhu `Alá Allāhi Wa Kāna Allāhu Ghafūrāan Raĥīmāan

Whoever emigrates in the cause of God will find in the earth many spoils and a bounty. And whoever leaves his home emigrating to God and His messenger, then is overcome by death; his recompense has fallen to God, and God is Forgiving, Merciful.

6:103
لاَ تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الأَبْصَارَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِير
Lā Tudrikuhu Al-'Abşāru Wa Huwa Yudriku Al-'Abşāra Wa Huwa Al-Laţīfu Al-Khabīr

The eyesight cannot reach Him, yet He can reach all eyesight; and He is the Subtle, the Expert.

6:103
لاَ تُدْرِكُهُ الأَبْصَارُ وَهُوَ يُدْرِكُ الأَبْصَارَ وَهُوَ اللَّطِيفُ الْخَبِير
Lā Tudrikuhu Al-'Abşāru Wa Huwa Yudriku Al-'Abşāra Wa Huwa Al-Laţīfu Al-Khabīr

The eyesight cannot reach Him, yet He can reach all eyesight; and He is the Subtle, the Expert.

36:40
لاَ الشَّمْسُ يَنْبَغِي لَهَا أَنْ تُدْرِكَ الْقَمَرَ وَلاَ اللَّيْلُ سَابِقُ النَّهَارِ وَكُلّ ٌ فِي فَلَك ٍ يَسْبَحُونَ
Lā Ash-Shamsu Yanbaghī Lahā 'An Tudrika Al-Qamara Wa Lā Al-Laylu Sābiqu An-Nahāri Wa Kullun Fī Falakin Yasbaĥūna

The sun is not required to overtake the moon, nor will the night precede the day; each of them is swimming in its own orbit.

فَلَمَّا تَرَاءَى الْجَمْعَانِ قَالَ أَصْحَابُ مُوسَى إِنَّا لَمُدْرَكُونَ
Falammā Tarā'á Al-Jam`āni Qāla 'Aşĥābu Mūsá 'Innā Lamudrakūna

But when the two groups saw each other, the companions of Moses said: "We are caught!"

68:49
لَوْلاَ أَنْ تَدَارَكَه ُُ نِعْمَة ٌ مِنْ رَبِّه ِِ لَنُبِذَ بِالْعَرَاءِ وَهُوَ مَذْمُوم ٌ
Lawlā 'An Tadārakahu Ni`matun Min Rabbihi Lanubidha Bil-`Arā'i Wa Huwa Madhmūmun

Had it not been for the grace of his Lord, he would have remained trapped, while he was to be blamed.

7:38
قَالَ ادْخُلُوا فِي أُمَم ٍ قَدْ خَلَتْ مِنْ قَبْلِكُمْ مِنَ الْجِنِّ وَالإِنسِ فِي النَّارِ كُلَّمَا دَخَلَتْ أُمَّة ٌ لَعَنَتْ أُخْتَهَا حَتَّى إِذَا ادَّارَكُوا فِيهَا جَمِيعا ً قَالَتْ أُخْرَاهُمْ لِأولاَهُمْ رَبَّنَا هَاؤُلاَء أَضَلُّونَا فَآتِهِمْ عَذَابا ً ضِعْفا ً مِنَ النَّارِ قَالَ لِكُلّ ٍ ضِعْف ٌ وَلَكِنْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ
Qāla Adkhulū Fī 'Umamin Qad Khalat Min Qablikum Mina Al-Jinni Wa Al-'Insi Fī An-Nāri Kullamā Dakhalat 'Ummatun La`anat 'Ukhtahā Ĥattá 'Idhā Addārakū Fīhā Jamī`āan Qālat 'Ukhrāhum Li'wlāhum Rabbanā Hā'uulā' 'AĐallūnā Fa'ātihim `Adhābāan Đi`fāan Mina An-Nāri Qāla Likullin Đi`fun Wa Lakin Lā Ta`lamūna

He said: "Enter with the multitude of nations before you from mankind and Jinn to the Fire!" Every time a nation entered, it cursed its sister nation, until they are all gathered inside it; then the last of them says to the first: "Our Lord, these are the ones who have misguided us, so give them double the retribution of the Fire!" He replied: "Each will receive double, but you do not know."

27:66
بَلْ ادَّارَكَ عِلْمُهُمْ فِي الآخِرَةِ بَلْ هُمْ فِي شَكّ ٍ مِنْهَا بَلْ هُمْ مِنْهَا عَمُونَ
Bal Addāraka `Ilmuhum Fī Al-'Ākhirati Bal Hum Fī Shakkin Minhā Bal Hum Minhā `Amūna

No, they have no knowledge of the Hereafter. No, they are in doubt regarding it. No, they are blind to it.
