There has been a good example set for you by Abraham and those with him, when they said to their people: We are innocent from you and what you serve besides God. We have rejected you, and it appears that there shall be animosity and hatred between us and you until you believe in God alone. Except for the saying of Abraham to his father: I will ask forgiveness for you, but I do not possess any power to protect you fromGod. Our Lord, we have put our trust in You, and we turn to You, and to You is the final destiny.

9:114
Wa Mā Kāna Astighfāru 'Ibrāhīma Li'abīhi 'Illā `An Maw`idatin Wa`adahā 'Īyāhu Falammā Tabayyana Lahu 'Annahu `Adūwun Lillāhi Tabarra'a Minhu 'Inna 'Ibrāhīma La'awwāhun Ĥalīmun

And Abraham seeking forgiveness for his father was only because of a promise he had made to him. But when it became clear that he was the enemy of God, he disowned him. Abraham was kind, compassionate.

28:63
Qāla Al-Ladhīna Ĥaqqa `Alayhimu Al-Qawlu Rabbanā Hā'uulā' Al-Ladhīna 'Aghwaynā 'Aghwaynāhum Kamā Ghawaynā Tabarra'nā 'Ilayka Mā Kānū 'Īyānā Ya`budūna

Those who have deserved the retribution will say: "Our Lord, these are the ones we misled; we misled them only because we ourselves were misled. We seek to absolve ourselves to You, it was not us that they worshipped."

impf. act.

2:167
Wa Qāla Al-Ladhīna Attaba`ū Law 'Anna Lanā Karratan Fanatabarra'a Minhum Kamā Tabarra'ū Minnā Kadhālika Yurīhimu Allāhu 'A`mālahum Ĥasarātin `Alayhim Wa Mā Hum Bikhārijīna Mina An-Nāri

And those who followed them said: "If we only could have a chance to disown them as they have disowned us." It is such that God will show them their works which will be regretted by them; they will not leave the Fire.
