47:1  Those who reject God and hinder people from the path of God, God will cause their deeds to be lost
47:2  But those who believe and do deeds of righteousness, and believe in the revelation sent down to Muhammad, because it is the truth from their Lord, He will remove from them their sins and improve their condition
47:3  Because those who reject God follow vanities, while those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. So God sets out for humanity their lessons by similitude
47:4  Therefore, when you meet the unbelievers in war, strike at their necks, then when you have thoroughly subdued them, bind a bond firmly. Afterwards is the time for either generosity or ransom, but not until the war lays down its burdens, but if it had been God's will, He could certainly have taken retribution from them Himself. But He wills to challenge you with others, but those who are slain in the way of God, He will never let their deeds be lost
47:5  Soon will He guide them and improve their condition
47:6  And admit them to the garden which He has announced for them
47:7  O you who believe, if you will aid God, He will aid you, and plant your feet firmly
47:8  But those who reject God, for them is destruction, and God will render their deeds lost
47:9  Because they hate the revelation of God. So He has made their deeds fruitless
47:10  Do they not travel through the earth and see what the end of those before them was? God brought utter destruction on them, and a similar fate awaits those who reject God
47:11  Because God is the Protector of those who believe, but those who reject God have no protector
47:12  Indeed God will admit those who believe and do righteous deeds to gardens with rivers flowing through them, while those who reject God will enjoy themselves and eat as livestock eat, but the fire will be their abode
47:13  And how many cities, with more power than your city which has driven you out, have We caused to perish? And there was none to aid them
47:14  Then is one who is clearly on a path from his Lord, no better than one to whom the harmfulness of his conduct seems pleasing, and those who follow their own lusts
47:15  Here is a parable of the garden which the righteous are promised. In it are rivers of water incorruptible, rivers of milk of which the taste never changes, rivers of wine, a joy to those who drink, and rivers of honey, pure and clear. In it there are all kinds of fruits for them, and grace from their Lord. Can those in such bliss be compared to those who will dwell forever in the fire, and who will be given boiling water to drink, so that it cuts up their insides
47:16  And among them are people who listen to you, but in the end, after they leave from you, they say to those who have received knowledge, “What is it he said just then?” These are people whose hearts God has sealed, and who follow their own lusts
47:17  But to those who receive guidance, He increases the guidance, and bestows on them piety and restraint
47:18  Do they then only wait for the Hour, that it should come on them all of a sudden? But some signs of it have already come, and when it is on them, how then can they benefit by the advice
47:19  Therefore know that there is no god but God, and ask forgiveness for your faults, and for the men and women who believe. For God knows how you move about and how you dwell in your homes
47:20  Those who believe say, “Why is a Surah not sent down for us?” But when a precise Surah is revealed, and fighting is mentioned in it, you will see those in whose hearts is a disease, looking at you with a look of one about to faint at the prospect of death, but more fitting for them
47:21  Would be to follow and say what is just, and when a matter is settled, it was best for them if they were true to God
47:22  Then is it to be expected of you, that if you were put in authority, that you will commit crimes in the land, and break your ties with friends and family
47:23  These are people who God has cursed, for He has made them deaf, and blinded their sight
47:24  Do they then not earnestly seek to understand the Quran, or are their hearts locked up by it
47:25  Those who turn back as traitors, after guidance was clearly shown to them, Satan has enticed them with false hopes
47:26  This is because they said to those who hate what God has revealed, “We will follow you in part of this matter,” but God knows their secrets
47:27  But how will it be when the angels take their souls at death, and strike their faces and their backs
47:28  This is because they followed that which deserved the punishment of God, and they hated God's blessings, so He made their deeds of no effect
47:29  Or do those in whose hearts is a disease think that God will not bring to light all their hatred
47:30  Had We so willed, We could have shown them to you, and you would have known them by their marks, but surely you will know them by the tone of their voice, and God knows all that you do
47:31  And We will try you until We make evident, those among you who strive their utmost and persevere in patience, and We will make your abilities evident
47:32  Those who reject God, hinder people from the path of God, and resist the messenger after guidance has been clearly shown to them, will not hurt God in the least, but He will make their deeds of no effect
47:33  O you who believe, follow God, and follow the messenger, and do not do work in vain
47:34  Those who reject God, hinder people from the path of God, then die rejecting God, God will not forgive them
47:35  Do not be weary and faint-hearted, crying for peace, when you should be assertive, for God is with you, and will never deprive you for your deeds
47:36  The life of the present is only play and entertainment, and if you believe and guard against harm, He will grant you your reward, and will not ask you to give up your possessions
47:37  If He was to ask you for all of them, and press you, you would withhold, and He would bring out all your ill feelings
47:38  Behold, you are those invited to give in the way of God, but among you are some who are greedy, but any who are greedy are so at the expense of their own souls. God is free of all wants, but it is you who are needy. If you turn back, He will substitute in your place another people, and they would not be like you
