Ghafir (The Forgiver, The Forgiving One)
as rendered by Safi Kaskas

Safi Kaskas rendition of Surah The Forgiver, The Forgiving One(Ghafir)
---
40:1 Ha Meem,
40:2 the revelation of the Book is from God, the Almighty, the All-knowing.
40:3 Forgiver of sin, Acceptor of repentance, Severe in punishment and Infinite in favor, there is no god except Him, and to Him is the ultimate return.
40:4 No one argues about God's signs except the unbelievers, so do not be deceived by their freedom to move around in the land.
40:5 Before them the people of Noah rejected the truth, as did the parties after them. Every nation plotted to destroy their messenger and argued to defeat truth with falsehood. So, I seized them. What a punishment it was.
40:6 In this way, your Lord's sentence was passed against those who denied the truth, that they would be the inhabitants of the Fire.
40:7 Those who carry the Throne of His majesty, and those around it, praise their Lord's limitless glory, and believe in Him, and ask forgiveness for the believers, [saying], "Our Lord, Your mercy and knowledge have encompassed all things, so forgive those who repent and follow Your path, and spare them from the punishment of Hell.
40:8 Our Lord, admit them to Gardens of Eden, which You have promised them, together with the righteous among their fathers, their spouses and their offspring. You are the Almighty, the Wise.
40:9 And guide them away [from committing] evil deeds. You would be Merciful that Day to anyone you have guided away [from committing] evil deeds, and that is the supreme triumph."
40:10 The unbelievers will be told [on the same Day], "When you were called to believe and rejected it, God's disgust with you was even greater than the self-disgust you now feel."
40:11 They will say, "Our Lord, twice You caused us to die, and twice You gave us life. We now admit our sins. Is there possibly a way out?"
40:12 [They will be told] "That is because, when God alone was called upon, you denied Him, but when others were associated with Him, you believed. Judgment belongs to God, the Most High, the Most Great."
40:13 It is He who shows you His signs, and sends down provisions from the sky to sustain you, but only the one who turns to God will take heed,
40:14 so call upon God and dedicate your faith sincerely to Him, even though it is resented by unbelievers.
40:15 He is high above [all] ranks, the Lord of the Throne. He confers the Spirit by His command on whoever He wills of His worshipers to warn of the Day when they will meet Him.
40:16 The Day they will emerge, when nothing about them is concealed from God. "To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day?" "To God, the One, the All-Conquering."
40:17 This Day every soul will be rewarded for what it earned. There will be no injustice today, for God is swift to settle accounts.
40:18 And warn them, of the Imminent Day, when the hearts are at the throats, choking them. The unjust will have no dependable friend and no intercessor [who is] obeyed.
40:19 God knows the eyes' deceptive glances and what the hearts conceal.
40:20 God judges with Truth, while those besides Him whom they invoke will not judge with anything at all. It is God who is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
40:21 Have they not traveled through the land and seen the fate of those [who lived] before them? They were mightier than they are, and they left more impact on the land, but God seized them for their sins, and they had no protector from God.
40:22 This is because they repeatedly rejected the self-evident signs their messengers brought them, so God seized them. He is All-Strong and severe in punishment.
40:23 We sent Moses with Our signs and a clear authority
40:24 to Pharaoh, Haman and Korah, but they said, "[He is] a lying magician."
40:25 Then, when he brought them the Truth from Us, they said, "Kill the sons of those who have believed with him and spare the women." But the schemes of the unbelievers can only fail.
40:26 Pharaoh said, "Let me kill Moses and let him appeal to his Lord. I fear that he may change your religion or spread disorder in the land."
40:27 But Moses said, "I have sought refuge in my Lord and yours from every arrogant tyrant who does not believe in the Day of Reckoning."
40:28 A believing man from Pharaoh's family, who concealed his faith, said, "Are you going to kill a man [merely] because he says, 'My Lord is God, 'when he has brought you clear signs from your Lord? If he is lying, then the consequence of his lie will be on him, but if he is truthful, then some of what he promises you will happen to you. God does not guide the blatant liars.
40:29 My people, you reign today, masters in the land, but who will protect us from God's mighty punishment if it should come to us?" Pharaoh said, "I show you only what I see, and I am guiding you along the right path."
40:30 But the believer said, "My people, I fear for you a day as befell the parties [who opposed their messengers],
40:31 Like what happen to Noah's people, Aad and Thamud and those after them. God does not want any injustice for His worshipers.
40:32 My people, I fear for you the Day of Calling
40:33 the Day when you will turn away, hoping to flee, with no one to protect you from God. Whomever God allows to stray has no guide.
40:34 Joseph had already come to you with clear evidence, but you never stopped doubting what he brought to you until, when he perished, you said, 'God will never send a messenger after him.' This is how God lets those who never cease doubting to stray."
40:35 Those who argue about God's revelations without having been given an authority are doing something despised by God and by those who believe. This is how God seals up the heart of every arrogant tyrant.
40:36 [Then] Pharaoh said, "Haman, build me a tower that I may gain means of access,
40:37 access to the heavens, so that I may have a look at this god of Moses, though I think he is a liar." This is how Pharaoh's evil deeds were made to appear good to him, and he was diverted from the [right] way. Pharaoh's scheming led to nothing but ruin.
40:38 But he who believed said, "My people, follow me, I will guide you through the correct path.
40:39 My people, this worldly life is only temporary enjoyment, but the Hereafter is the lasting home.
40:40 Whoever does a bad deed will be repaid with its like, but whoever does good and is a believer, whether male or female, they will enter Paradise, where they will be provided for without measure.
40:41 My people, how is it that I call you to salvation while you call me to the Fire?
40:42 You call me to deny God and to associate with Him something of which I have no knowledge, whereas I call you to the Almighty, the Ever-Forgiving.
40:43 Without a doubt, that to which you call me has no foundation either in this world or in the Hereafter, [nor is there doubt] that our return is to God, whereas those who overstate (their disbelieve] shall inhabit the Fire.
40:44 You will remember what I say to you, so I entrust myself to God, for God is well aware of [His] worshipers."
40:45 So God protected him from the evils they plotted, while a terrible punishment encompassed Pharaoh's clan,
40:46 the Fire, to which they will be exposed morning and evening. On the Day the Hour comes [it will be said], "Admit Pharaoh's clan to the most intense punishment."
40:47 In the Fire, they will bicker, and the meek will say to those who were arrogant, "We were your followers, so can you provide us some relief from the Fire?"
40:48 But those who were arrogant will say, "We are all in it together. God has judged between the worshipers."
40:49 Those in the Fire will say to the keepers of Hell, "Pray to your Lord to lighten our punishment for a day."
40:50 [The keepers] will say, "Did not your messengers come to you with clear evidence?" They will say, "Yes." [The keepers] will reply, "Then pray [yourselves], but the prayers of the unbelievers will always be in vain."
40:51 We will surely support Our Messengers and those who believe during this life; and, on the Day when the witnesses arise-
40:52 The Day when excuses will not benefit the unjust- they will be rejected and they will have the worst of homes.
40:53 We gave Moses guidance, and We made the Children of Israel heirs to the Book
40:54 as guidance and a reminder for those with understanding.
40:55 Be patient, for God's promise is true. And ask forgiveness for your sin, and glorify your Lord with praise evening and morning.
40:56 Those who dispute God's revelations without any authority to do so have nothing within their hearts except arrogance, which they will never be able to satisfy, so seek refuge in God, for He is the All-Hearing, the All-Seeing.
40:57 The creation of the heavens and earth is far greater than the creation of human beings, but most people do not know.
40:58 The blind and the seeing are not the same, nor are those who believe and do good deeds equal to the evildoers. How seldom you reflect.
40:59 The Hour is sure to come, there is no doubt about it, but most people do not believe.
40:60 Your Lord says, "Call upon Me, and I will answer you, but those who are too proud to worship Me will enter Hell, humiliated."
40:61 It is God who made the night for you so that you may rest, and the day [so that you may] see. God is truly gracious to people, but most people are not thankful.
40:62 Such is God, your Lord, Creator of all things. There is no God but Him, so how can you be so misled?
40:63 Thus it is: those who reject God's signs are misled.
40:64 It is God who made the earth for you to settle and the heaven as a canopy. He designed you, and perfected your design, and provided you with wholesome things. Such is God, your Lord, so blessed be God, Lord of the worlds.
40:65 He is the Ever-Living. There is no God except Him, so call on Him, making your faith sincerely His. Praise be to God, Lord of the worlds.
40:66 Say, "Now that clear evidence has come to me from my Lord, I have been prohibited from worshiping those you call upon besides God, and I am commanded to submit to the Lord of the worlds."
40:67 It is He who created you from dust, then from a fertilized ovum, then from a clinging leach like; then He brings you out as infants; then He allows you to reach maturity; and then you become elderly, although some of you die sooner-so that you may reach a predetermined age, and perhaps you may understand.
40:68 It is He who gives life and death; when He decides on a thing, He simply says, "Be," and It is.
40:69 Do you not see how misled are those who dispute God's signs,
40:70 those who deny the Book and the messages We sent with Our Messengers? They will surely come to know,
40:71 when they have shackles and chains around their necks, and are dragged
40:72 in boiling water, and are then thrown into the Fire, where they will be consumed.
40:73 It will then be said to them, "Where are those [associates] whom you used to consider divine
40:74 other than God?" They will say, "They have departed from us; or, rather, those we used to call upon proved to be nothing. [They will be told,] "This is how God let those who deny the truth stray,
40:75 all because you used to rejoice on earth in things other than the truth, and you were full of vanity.
40:76 Enter the gates of Hell, to remain there eternally, a terrible home for the arrogant."
40:77 So be patient, [Prophet,] for God's promise is true. Whether We show you some of what We have promised them or We cause you to die, It is to Us that they will be returned.
40:78 We have sent messengers before you. Some We have told you about, and others We did not. No messenger can produce a miracle except with God's permission. Then, when God's command comes, just judgment will be passed, and those who followed falsehood will be lost then and there.
40:79 It is God who made the domestic animals, some for you to ride, and some to eat.
40:80 You have other benefits from them as well. You can reach any destination you wish on them, and on them and on ships, you are transported.
40:81 And [thus] He shows you His signs. So, which of God's signs do you deny?
40:82 Have they not traveled through the land and seen the fate of those who lived before them? They were more numerous than they are, and had greater power, and left more impressive marks on the land. Yet what they achieved was of no use to them.
40:83 When their messengers came to them with self-evident signs, they showed satisfaction with the knowledge they had, and so they were engulfed by the very punishment they had mocked.
40:84 Then, when they saw Our might, they said," We believe in God alone, and we reject what we used to associate with Him."
40:85 But believing after seeing Our might did not help them at all. This has been God's way of dealing with His worshipers, and those who denied the truth were lost, then and there.
