(This warning served only to fuel the other’s passion:) His carnal, evil-commanding soul prompted him to kill his brother, and he killed him, thus becoming among the losers
But (the baser instincts of) his mind prompted him (whose offering was not accepted) to kill his brother (whose offering was accepted), so he killed him, wherefore he became one of the losers
Then the (ill-commanding) self of Qabil (Cain) made the killing of his brother Habil (Abel) easy (and tempting) for him. So, he killed him and became one of the losers
So the Nafs (self) of the other (latter one) encouraged him and made fairseeming to him the murder of his brother; he murdered him and became one of the losers
Finally, the ambition and jealousy driven by his ego made it easy for him (Cain) to kill his brother (Abel), so he killed him... Thus he became of the losers.
Sayyed Abbas Sadr-Ameli
Then his soul (through temptation of envy) ficiliated to him the murder of his brother. So he murdered him, and thus became one of the losers
Al-muntakhab fi tafsir al-Qur'an al-Karim
He succumbed to his evil thought of slaying his brother and he killed him, only to incur the loss of the noble qualities of the soul and be one of those born to be losers
